Tues is to the vet that will do the sonogram I want. Jessica's dad. I'm not sure just what # opinion to consider this (in a way). The clinic we've been going to has four vets, who consult with each other. This will be a fifth opinion? Just finished a "feeding", Sky was totally underfoot, I gave him some Whiskas Temptation treats and he plowed in to them, ate about a dozen. The most I've seen him eat in one setting! I wonder if his jaws get tired, they've one quite some time with no exercise!

I may be off on this, but from what you've told us about what the vet and techs have told you I get the feeling that the techs filter what they tell the vets. This is great if the tech is actually very good at their job, they know what the vet needs to know. I have the sinking feeling that the tech(s) are so sure of their skills that they aren't passing along pertinent and critical information to the vets.
If I were you I'd be talking directly to a vet ASAP. Please.

I agree with . I think that your line of communication is getting to filtered and needs to be more direct. Kind of like what happens in the telephone game. I am glad he is showing interest in treats though! That is a great sign!

When I have been there I always make sure I talk to the vet. Is there a particular part you're referring to? I can then tell you if that was to a tech only, and if I did follow up. I would double check the posts myself, but I'm exhausted and might not catch anything. We've been having humid, mid to upper 90's and we haven't had any air-conditioning. The guy is on his way now. So my brain is fried. To add to the "fun", I think Mr Man has glaucoma in one eye. What do you think? He will be with Sky and me in the morning. I did call to ok it.

Ready to get your mind blown? Sky's issues (after the blockage) are due to a diaphragmatic hernia. He will have surgery later today or first thing in the morning. He has not been eating because he cannot breathe. I had not noticed symptoms, due to him not being seen for months, and once he started coming out (from under the bed) I expected him to be "different" due to his brain trauma. I remember being so glad that he didn't have internal injuries, the brain trauma was bad enough, and having one eye popped out. I never saw the symptoms. Without the surgery, he would die. This is major surgery, rearranging his organs into the positions they should be in and repairing the hernia. If you pray, now is time Sky needs it.

I'm so glad you went and had that second opinion and the scan. Praying for you and Sky. Please let us know how he pulls through.

Of course you have our prayers for Sky! Wow, talk about "out of the blue", geez. And of course it would be difficult to eat if you can't breath. We all know how it is to try to eat with a head cold, how much more would this be?! Poor little fellow.
I just meant that you were expecting things to happen and the tech was sounding like it was not a problem. Since you'd been talking to the vet all along then I'm not worried any more. Whew!

You should google diaphragmatic hernia in cats. It's not long or complicated at all. Hernia, a rip/hole in the diaphragm that allows organs t move into the chest cavity. Jess never did a sonogram, she didn't need to, it was visible in an x ray. I would love to compare the x ray taken by Dr M and compare it to the one Jess took. She believes one of the things pressing against Sky's lungs, causing the issues, is a lobe of his liver. I will b facsinated to hear exactly what she finds, praying that Sky survives. You can understand that this is very invasive surgery. The two causes for this kind of hernia is congenital and severe impact, being hit by a car is the example used every time. In other words the hernia has been there since the very beginning. The only reason I can come up ith for it to have become this much worse is the pressure from the excess urine in his bladder from the blockage, possibly made worse from being expressed. After the surgery is over, and Sky survives (or not) there will be questions demanding answers. If the x-ray that Dr M did really did not show the hernia, if she had done the sonogram, when I asked for it, it would have been seen then. Dr M has been waiting for Sky to start eating and now we know that was not going to happen. He would have died first.

Oh jeepers kskatt, I am so sorry you and Sky have had to go through this. You are one of those "beyond the pale" pet owners who are so active in their pet's health and well-being that all those around you are raised up if they are willing. I've learned so much about not simply my pet's care but more committed to helping Gerald manage his health care. While he is an adult (and a man which makes helping quite challenging at times) and should be able to followup on his care himself, its so easy to simply let things go as they will. Drives me crazy! Not to hijack your thread in any way but Gerald is going to see a cardiologist today to get them TO DO SOMETHING finally. I will not let up this time on getting him to find out WHEN!? Praying hard for Sky

, you're not hijacking anything! And if this experience helps/teaches anybody in any way, something good has come out of it. I'm sure going to be pushier, if that's what it takes. Sky's surgery is scheduled to start between 10 and 10:30am.

It's 12:43, I'm about ready to come out of my skin. The guys to change the water purifier have come and gone. The guy that needs to find the leak in our freon, that was suppose to be here this morning, hasn't shown up. It is a 86f in here and it is amazing how stuffy it can feel even with a fan blowing. It's not so much that I'm afraid of leaving Mom here by herself with one or two guys coming. Small local company we have used before. It's just that if any questions come up, Mom is bad. And, when I ask her if anything was said or if I ask her to ask a question, she'll forget. Do you think just leaving my phone # and telling Mom to call me, or have him call me would be good enough? I want to go up there in person! I want to not be waiting for a repairman!

I would give my mom instructions like you said including a pen and paper with my name and phone number on it to show the repairmen AND I would call the shop and tell them that the repairmen need to call YOU. Don't need to explain why or anything and then if you can get one of the repairman's cell phone numbers and follow up once/hour. GOOD LUCK!

Eh, I told mom to call me. Worked out he didn't get here until I was back. Since it has taken me so long to get here, let me post that Sky is alive and more well than we thought. No hernia. I saw the xray that looks like the heart is sitting on an object. Could have been some of the fluid that got tapped. Anyway, I need to feed and then give you more details. Like the fact he had been shot.

Whooooa, this is like a mini-series where they end each episode with a cliff hanger, it would be more fun if it weren't so sad. So now Sky doesn't have a hernia but apparently has a "bubble" of edema or maybe that comment about being shot is that Sky's body encapsulated the bullet or shell with fluid? Gosh Sky, you need to catch a break! Poor little kitty. If only the person or persons who did this could suffer as much as Sky and know that it was because of what they did so it really burned 'em to never, ever even think of such a thing. But SKY IS ALIVE! I'm going to concentrate on that, I am so very relieved and very happy for Sky and Kskatt. Yay!

Have to admit to updating Sky's facebook page first. You should go and like it! I will be, at least, linking a thread from a cat forum I was/am on. It tells the story of Sky from about a month into our life together. The days that he hid under my bed and all the firsts; first touch, first petting, first purr, first time he came out from under the bed.... It is 19 pages, but seriously these pages don't add up to that much, it sure ain't no War & Peace. www.facebook.com/pages/Sky/451694408338243?ref=aymt_homepage_panelNo obligation to read anything but I do post pics and videos.
