Tiny steps forward to getting better is a good thing. and hopefully you can bring him home for the weekend. wet food like mush is best. liver, or cooked chicken with water or milk perhaps?

A little bit is better than none, so Yay for Sky! (love that name by the way). You keep on keeping on little kitty, we're all here rooting for you! I named him Sky because he was so beat up when I first found him, three and a half years ago. It was a "the sky's the limit type thing". Other cats I first got in bad shape, I named Gods, trying to imply power, the strength to overcome anything.

Another "tiny bit better", that's just great! Sky wants to get better, he's trying. Sure I know it's uncomfortable but as a person who struggles through life with a lot of emotional pain anyway, I'd feel pretty bad if my loved ones gave up on me. I know it is a tough thing to have to be on the lookout for when your pet tells you that they're done. I am nearly crying thinking of similar distressful times in my life and I know I'll have them again because I have animals in my family. That's why your heart is so very big and is that crazy combination of soft and strong, the way only a true heart can be. You're doing just fine, you're doing the best that any one could do. And it sounds like the vets who are actually doing the work have got this and totally get what you and Sky are going through. Sure it isn't perfect, there are folks there who apparently need a lesson on "what's my ass and what's my brain" but you figured out a way past that. Reading your post reminds me of the saying that God doesn't give you more than He knows you can handle. To which my reply is, I wish He didn't believe in me so much!!

Although the blood work is better, the vet wants to try something new. She wants to try some sulfa, like I took when I had a bladder infection. He can't come home until he eats. I don't like the idea of anesthesia in his condition, but did ask that if he had to be anesthetized anyway, perhaps a stomach tube? That would end the tube going down the throat and maintain nutrient levels. She said it could come to that, it would be easier on him. She is going to give him anti-nausea meds in case the smell of food is making him nauseous. I have been there, would explain how he will look at the food, but turn his head away if I bring it to him. He has not needed the catheter this time and the IV was out, so I got to hold him Saturday. I would like to share some of that with you. There was some purring, just very soft. I was wishing you could hear it.

Oh, I have gathered up a new supply of temptations to try out Monday. Lady at a pet store, does not sell animals, recommended Stella & Chewy's, a freeze dried meal. A friend recommended PureBites, freeze dried treat. Cranberry Cabernet treat, another friend uses cranberry for her cat and herself for bladder issues. Whiskas cat milk and a single meal tub of Rachael Ray Nutrish. It is a see through plastic container and the contents look good and juicy. I will take a syringe so that, push come to shove, I can try to see if I could learn to syringe feed him better. The effort I made at home was not pretty.

I can hear him purring while he is with you, i just close my eyes and listen. his heart beating near yours. i am sure you looked but perhaps a tooth problem? any steps getting better is the right direction. and keep on top of those techs. anything you need to say say it to the vet in charge and firmness in your voice. smileys-cats-959899

Those pictures really show how much he loves you, he looks so cuddly and calm somehow. Your heart must have been jumping for joy to hear him purr, gosh, I'm smiling from ear to ear

Aww, what lovely photos of Sky. Yes, we can all hear him purring by just looking at those. What a little love bug. I hope you are able to get him to eat something soon so he can come home where he belongs.

horselady, there are multiple reasons he may not be eating right now. Dr M called this am, when I saw the # calling, my heart stopped. She was just checking in that the plan was to anesthetize Sky about 1:30 put a cath in and insert a feeding tube. Haven't gotten any call since, that should mean he survived the anesthesia, almost time she said to call and check in. Dr M said that if all went well she could teach me how to use the feeding tube, maybe Sky could come home for the weekend. I can kill time finding one of my big dog crates (wire) and see if I can remember how to set it up. It would be big enough for a small litter box, food and water, just in case. Absolutely a nice bed. It would be safe and I could keep him quiet. Keep those prayers coming, he still has a long way to go.

Wow, what a tough time you and he have had. I'm glad it sounds like he's out of the woods. Maybe he doesn't like the food because it makes him feel nauseous after being so sick. My daughter's cat was put on a special food from the vet's last week and she threw it up a few times and now won't eat it at all. I don't blame her.

Oh Sky, please start eating and feeling better, please? But if they think that he could come home, well, that's gotta be a positive development right? To be frank I'd be more than a little nervous that I could take care of him properly, but kskatt you're much more experienced with this kind of thing than I am so I have no such reservations about your skills.
I'm going home tomorrow so I'll have to check from my phone. Keep us updated, pictures or not, please.
