I'm loving watching the videos! Thanks for sharing them! My horse does a turn on the haunch and on the forehand under saddle but I'd never have thought to do it from the ground. I can't wait to see if he will, I'm really curious now. Kudos to whoever is filming you as well, they're doing a great job. I don't know why but I can't get sound with the videos. Is there sound?

You two make a great team. the only thing i see is that you keep looking down perhaps you should practice keeping your eyes up and a head like you were riding. and try to walk a little faster.
jmo she looks like such a solid horse with a great brain.

They prefer if you film without sound, and it makes the file much smaller and faster to upload to Youtube, so no sound. All you'd hear would be me clucking to keep her trotting anyway! LOL
Thanks for the tip HL! Didn't even notice I'm looking down. I will try to be more aware of that!
She is a wonderful mare! So sensible. So glad I took the plunge with her! She's everything I need to build my confidence!

Oh, yeah, as to walking faster - Lucy and I are both lazy! LOL But I agree - I think that's what the judge meant last month with putting more energy into it. I'll try to focus on that more next month - wasn't feeling too great this time around - still finding if I do too much I feel sick thanks to my surgery. But I feel better every day, so fingers crossed I can get both out butts a little more energized in September!

I wish you were closer. I'd love to come and watch you do it. And when I watch the videos again I won't try to figure out why I have no sound, thanks for letting me know!

Our rosette for our July test came yesterday! I'll have to try to remember to take it out to the barn with me so she can pose with it on!

I just think this interdressage thing is such a cool idea, and I love watching your videos. Thanks so much for sharing them with us! Congrats on receiving your beautiful rosette. I definitely think Lucy needs to pose with it on, and with you beside her, because the two of you earned it together. Well done!!

I've gotten one score back for August so far, for the Baroque freestyle (this one). We came last (3rd out of 3), but had a decent score of 74% (first was 84.5%, second was 79.5%). Knowing nothing about Baroque style, I didn't expect to win and am pleased with our score! Reading the notes from the judge, I can see where we lost a lot of points by not being in the right frame. Was also interesting to note that in Baroque style, they want the feet to lift and move during turns on the forehand/haunches as opposed to the pivoting I'm more used to. Lots of comments about our harmony/connection, which is always nice to hear! Overall, even though we came last, I'm quite happy with our results! Not too shabby for a plucky little Quarter Horse!

The results are really interesting. I guess they give you a description of what baroque style is? How fun to have the comments. This is so much better than being in a show and not knowing how they came up with the results.

Wow they give you so much feedback, definitely can pinpoint what you need to work on that way I suppose And you get rosettes too!! exciting

NHG - from the feedback, I'm thinking baroque style is more upright and compact verses Lucy's low and stretched out way of going. Not really sure how to get her more "baroque" style on the ground, but something to work on.
Shelly - yeah, the feedback is awesome! And they give rosettes to 10th place and if there are more than 5 people in the class, there is even a little bit of prize money! September is there "championship" show that you have to qualify for (we've qualified for the practical horsemanship and the baroque classes!) and for that, they give rosettes to 10th place and medals to third place! It's pretty neat. Eventually I want to start taking lessons and going to shows around here, but in the meantime, it's a great way to get feedback!

Well done! Again, I love that they give you such detailed feedback! I didn't even know what several of the terms meant that they used for the choices you had, so then watching your video and reading the judge's comments helped me learn a little bit about them. Thanks!
I just want to say that I love watching you and Lucy work. You two are such a good team, and she always appears so calm and willing. Well done!

I was so curious about this baroque thing that I googled it. Yes, I really did, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Please don't start calling me the googler II now. Anyway, there's not much information but it looks like baroque is more animated action. Legs lifted higher, higher arched headset, things like that. Things our western horses aren't likely to do. There are also breeds considered to be baroque breeds such Andalusians, Friesians, Lipizzans, etc. Arabians and park style Morgans are included as well.

Thanks Terry! I love working with her! I'll be honest - when I first bought her, I was buying on faith - my trial ride was just walking her around their snowy paddock as I wasn't comfortable doing more, but the seller seemed really honest and Lucy seemed really quiet which is what I was looking for. I was a little concerned I'd get her home and she'd be a basket case once I started riding, but she's turned out to be everything the seller said she was and more!
nhg - I also started googling baroque horses, so I guess we're both googlers now! LOL It'll be interesting to see if I can get my stocky little quarter horse into a "baroque frame" Won't be perfect, but will be fun trying!

Ok, finally getting around to posting the results for the other 2 tests for August! The second test was Manners, Ability & Performance ( this test). We came 2/2, with a decent score of 73%. Lost quite a few marks for turnout (my bad!) - we only got 25/40 for turnout. Forgot to wear my helmet, oops. At least I know for next time! The last test was Practical Horsemanship, which had a set template ( this one). Came last (5/5) but again, good score and great comments from the judge. I particularly like the comment about me micro-managing, and can see what she means. Interdressage has a Facebook page where you can talk more with the judges, so I've been in contact with the judge on how exactly to "bring my energy up" and have more confidence in myself. So, 3 classes for August, 3 last place finishes, but decent scores and great feedback from the judges. Now to start thinking about September's Championship classes!
