Thought I'd start a thread just for tracking our progress with Interdressage, so I don't take over the desensitizing thread! Quick recap on Interdressage: It's basically an online horse show. Each month they have different classes ranging from walk/trot dressage, jumping, practical horsemanship, paddock ornament, etc. You pay the entry fee, record your test and upload it to Youtube, then send Interdressage the link to the video. Rosettes are awarded up to 10th place, and in classes with more than 5 entries, there is even prize money. In addition to a score sheet, the judges also provide a fairly comprehensive tips/advice section so you know exactly what to work on. Since the judges can view the video multiple times, they can pinpoint exactly the areas that need work. In September they have a "Championship" show that you need to qualify for. Qualification for dressage, jumping and Baroque classes is 68% and for showing/showmanship classes it's 75&. For the Championship show, they have championship rosettes to 10th place and medals to 3rd place. I wasn't too sure about the whole idea at first, but it's a great way to show when you don't have the money or access to attend real shows. It's also nice that the classes are posted a month in advance to you can practice each test until you feel confident to film. Plus, you get to compete "internationally" against riders from all over the world!

Here is our entry for July 2014. It was a freestyle practical horsemanship class. The compulsory elements were a halt & salute and walk & trot led from each side. Then we got to choose 5 elements from a list, so I chose rub all over with a plastic bag, open umbrella and lead from each side, walk over tarp, stand while handler walks around horse, and back between 2 poles. I'd never tried any of these with Lucy before and honestly thought we would need to practice a bit before filming, but she was great so I filmed it the first night we tried everything (hence my lack of "show" clothes). I think Lucy did great! We scored 80.43% and won the class! There were only 2 other entries, but we were the only score in the 80s (the other scores were 78.46% and 72.17%). Most of the points we lost were due to me, so I've got some things to work on, like being more confident and getting Lucy more energetic. Here are the notes from the judge:

........... A nice way to have eyes see what you are doing and working on. It is so hard to know when working by yourself or with the same person watching if you've "got it!". Be proud of what you have accomplished...it takes skill and time spent to do what you just did! blue ribbon

I think it's great that the judges give you written tips and advice. As HL4L said, it helps so much to have a fresh pair of eyes look at what you're doing and give you advice. Overall I thought their comments were not bad at all. Well done!

That's such a good idea, I think once I have a place with an arena I'll try it too, with Isis lol!
Good job:)

I've never heard of it before, that is so cool! Good job and congratulations! You guys looked great but I can see where you look like you're worried she's going to react. Next time!
When I think of dressage I never think of being judged on groundwork and things like that. Often TWH classes are done that way, you send in a video rather than go to an actual show. At least around here they are.
I've been in one dressage class in my life and that was at a gaited horse show about 6 years ago on my TWH. Out of a field of twenty some horses we came in third. I messed up twice. Once I forgot to slow to a working walk when I should have and at the end I saluted them and then spun him around and loped out. I don't know what I was thinking. Anyway, I loved how they scored it with the numbers for each thing and the comments. I loved that it's a pattern class but not an actual reining class. This is why I so wanted to get into western dressage this year. But then my health got in the way. Next year...

Yeah, the tips are great! Watching back the video I can totally see how she means I lack confidence and look hesitant and I understand where she rights there's a fine line between calmness and caution. Love that they give concrete advice on what to work on! Like you guys say, it's a great way to have "eyes" on me to correct me since I can't afford lessons right now. :) lorddaxter - lots of people film just in a marked out grassy area. You could just buy some cheap pilons to mark out an "arena" in a field. You'd only need 8 pilons to mark out the main 8 dressage letters around the border. nhg - I didn't know TWH had shows where you send in a video. Interesting. Good job on scoring in your first dressage class, especially a big class of 20! You'll have to let me know how western dressage is when you get around to it, but first and foremost, take care of yourself!

I think it is a great idea to film your lesson and than enter it into a contest like that. i wonder if we can see the other videos that were sent in . just as a way to learn and compare.
great job sl. and lucy. blue ribbon

Yup, if you go to the Interdressage home page and scroll down to you see this: You can click on which class you want to see the videos of. So we were class 7. There was Class 7A which was a ridden condition/turnout class, and my class 7B, the practical horsemanship. Class 5 was a Baroque freestyle so that was a bit different and Class 8 in July was Quadrilles which was fun to watch.

We did 3 entries for August - a Baroque freestyle, Manners, Ability & Performance (another freestyle), and a Practical Horsemanship that had a set test template to follow. I'll add the videos in separate posts so I can add in the judge's comments when I get them I did notice that in the Baroque test versus the other two, Lucy's backing up is much straighter - in the Baroque one I keep facing forward as I ask her to back vs. the other two where I stand in front and face backwards and ask. I'll have to remember that for next time and work on keeping her straight if I stand in front and face back.

The first test for August was the Baroque freestyle
I chose to do the reinback, turn on the forehand, turn on the haunches and the 6m volte (which I think my circle was smaller than it should have been - oops!).

The second test for August was Manners, Ability and Performance In-Hand.
LOL I love how as soon as she steps on the pedestal she turns to me like "Where's my treat?"

The last test we did for August was the Practical Horsemanship test, which had a set test template to follow. I think it went pretty well except for the crooked backing up!

You and Lucy make a great team. Good luck with your tests. When is the judging?

Thanks! Lucy can be a bit lazy - when we trot I have to keep clucking at her! LOL She's a good girl though and does try to do what I ask The judging is usually finalized by the 3rd of the following month, so hopefully in a week or so I'll have the results. The score might be posted sooner, but I might have to wait for the judging sheet to be emailed to me and to see what other people's scores are.

That is so neat! I've never heard of interdressage before I think I would consider doing this with my guy!!! WOW I'm just amazed, you guys look awesome in the videos! Your girl seems very well behaved Looking at her just climb up on that block for you, super cool... definitely need to try that with my Sheldon

Thanks! I'm really like this Interdressage thing. So handy to be able to "show" without having to pack up and get a ride to a real show and pay stabling fees and stuff. One of these days I'll try some of the ridden tests, gotta get more practice first!
Lucy is such a good girl. I'm trying to track down her original owners to see if they remember who trained her when she was young, cause if I ever get a younger horse, I'd love that person to start it! Can't take credit for her training, other than stepping on the pedestal - that's her favorite trick!
