It does look odd in those pictures!
He has good feet, I remember she trimmed him real short the last time, they are now long overdue, between both our schedules clashing, she's coming Thursday, Isis still has his shoes on, typical, I haven't had time to ride, after recovering from the fall I got a bad cold then I was gone then back and so busy, kinda wondering if it's worth putting more on as august is hell, maybe I'll have to make the time:)

Ah, okay. I'm funny about angles and trims. I often ask other people who their farrier is because I think their horse was poorly trimmed and they'll gush about how fabulous he is and who he is while I'm making a mental note to never use the guy. We have an atrocious female so-called barefoot trimmer around here that people think is wonderful but she'll never be hearing from me. And our farrier is having surgery on his knee next week so he'll be unavailable for a while. They have a guy that comes to the barn that everyone likes but I'm not big on. I guess I'll have to use him for a bit but I'll be right there telling him how I want it. And not to do one of his lightening fast trims that leave the angles off. Plus he doesn't round off the edges of the hoof! I HATE that. He says it weakens them. Rounding them off makes them less likely to chip. Has anyone seen the video where they have the body of a dead horse and they show how the tendon at the back of the front legs can be cut so easily? It's so tight that if the back hoof clips it it'll go flying apart like a piano wire. It gave me new respect for splint boots and SMBs. So yeah, I don't want razor sharp hoof edges. Not to mention how much worse it is should that horse kick another horse.

I know, mine actually doesn't practice anymore, she just kept a few clients on the side, I do feel she hasn't been doing as good a job recently mainly as she can't come out enough but I think if i may be moving soon what's the point on switching, Isis pulled one of his shoes off last night, I think she's putting rubber ones on him this time anyway, their feet are awful, iras are splaying bad, Isis is ok, Dax ugh, so long and upright, he had navicular when I got him, don't want a repeat:(

So got all their feet done this morning, I'll take pics tomorrow, it started raining just as we finished, Isis has nice rubber shoes one, bouncy, all I need!
She says no big al on Dax's foot, the hoof above is healthy and it's growing and not spreading, just to keep an eye on it, won't be an issue till it gets near the bottom and if it stays on the back quarter then not an issue atall:)
Isis was a bit of a dick today, got a couple slaps, I do think maybe she pricked him a bit, one of the nails looks high, ill see what you all think tomorrow:)

We're getting ours trimmed tonight. Our farrier is having surgery on his knee next week but said he'd do them today so we don't have to worry for a while. Prince needs to be done anyway.

What is the issue with that foot? I must have missed something. Has he always had a problem with that foot? To me he doesn't have enough toe and the angle is wrong. It looks like a club foot.

Sorry it's because I can't bend down good to take a picture, I have a bad back lol! Angles are good, I'm a foot freak! The injury was from a barb wire cut a few years ago, see picture, then for some reason he blew an abscess a couple month ago, no lameness nothing, then this crack started Attachment Deleted

The crack seems to have grown out quite a bit, or am I just seeing it wrong. I wonder if, once it gets lower on his foot, if it might break out there. Diamond has a similar crack, do to an injury, and hers broke out. It wasn't too bad, and just took more frequent farrier visits for awhile. While it was short I was supposed to be careful and not ride her over rocks, but that was about all. It grew out fine, but I worried, worried, worried.
I think the shoes on Dax is probably a good thing. I would think, the crack would have a lot better support, and might not break off early at all.
You know I thought maybe his angles might look a little off too, (I don't really know anything about angles) but I wonder if it is because we are looking at the same foot twice, but thinking we should be seeing a pair of feet. It is funny the way our brains will try to explain things, that we see. Now I am curious if his feet would look totally different, if we were seeing both of them. ?

I'll try to take a picture from the ground, I just struggle getting down, well back up actually! Yes, the crack is now growing down instead of across for which I am thankful, I was worried it would keep going along the coronary band, I know it'll come to a point, prob in 2 trims that he can't have a shoe on that foot but then she can take the pressure off it by cutting it away hopefuly so it doesn't splay out worse.

Don't hurt your back, just to show us a better angle of his angles. As long as you know that they are ok, then that's good enough for me.
I don't think I got any pictures of Diamonds crack, but I think it was about as long as Dax's. The whole thing broke out about an inch from reaching the bottom of her hoof. We had talked about shoes. I can't remember why my farrier decided against it. She was never lame. In fact she didn't seem to notice it at all. I tried to be so careful with her foot. We only walked on plowed ground, and went very slowly. Then I would turn her back out into the pasture and she would run, run, run, like an idiot across the rockiest part of the pasture.

Ew, that was a nasty cut. I don't know why I didn't know what had happened to him. The reason why I don't like the angle is because there should be straight line from his fetlock to his toe. It looks like it angles downwards once it reaches the coronet band. That's why it looks clubby. That was quite the wire cut, nasty.

Omg hope he is fine, any update? Lipizzan the cut was a couple year ago, it just left a lot of scarring, baldness despite my best efforts, not sure why he abscessed there years later but that's what caused the foot crack, I always ride him in over reach boots as I worry he will catch that foot.

That does look like a big crack but it doesn't look too deep. Hopefully it will grow out without too many problems.

So the cracks growing out nicely, the rubber shoes seem to be helping it keep together, it's nice and dry, I do spray it after every ride with red antiseptic spray incase it helps stop any infection, it's stopped going horizontally and is just working its way down but luckily slowly and all the growth above looks good, I should be ok to get shoes on this next visit but I think it won't be possible for the next as it'll be right where 2 nails go.

I really understand what you are saying. Once it gets low enough there is really nothing you can do except let it grow out. Diamonds whole side wall, broke out about, I guess, an inch or so from the ground. After that, it was just a waiting game. I was worried because it involved her heal. She grew out just fine though, and is completely sound. I know this sounds silly, but try not to worry. Dax will be ok.
Ok never mind. you can't help, but worry. How about,,,,, try not to worry to much.

When their feet are fine and we don't want to have to pay for a farrier yet again they seem to grow like crazy but when there's something that you want o grow out it takes forever. I guess that's kind of a Murphy's law.

So Daxs foot is odd again, I'll post a pic from my phone in a minute, farrier is coming early Friday morning, I sent her pictures she says its abnormal growth from the scar tissue on the heel bulb but she wants to come smooth it down and have a look anyway, it's almost like he has a finger.
Note, his feet aren't upright, it's because he has a scar and hair missing hence makes his foot look odd!
