When i was feeding a 3 week old kitten that was orphaned i gave him evaporated milk with water, and kayro syrup. and baby meat with a teaspoon. that little thing went crazy for the baby food. the former owner was throwing meatballs and rice pudding in the box and the kittens were starving. so i took one and friends took one and the third one did not make the night. mine lived to be 12 years old and was a rip.
you are doing a wonderful job with Heidi and kittens so what ever you do is from your heart. and mention to the vet that she is a rescue perhaps they will spay at a reduced cost.

Sounds like everyone is doing great. Yay!
I would definitely suggest not feeding cows milk to Heidi (or her kittens). My vet told me that, contrary to popular belief, cats are actually lactose intolerant and should never be given cows milk as it gives them diarrhea. I have to believe it's true, because every time my hubby sneaks some milk to our cats they end up with a terrible case of diarrhea soon after. As long as Heidi has access to plenty of fresh water, kitten chow, and cat food, she should do fine.

I found out something I didn't know this morning. Baby kittens can see light. One of the little calicos had her face visible this morning. Usually they are stuck on their Mama teat, so I can't see their faces. I wanted to see what her face looked like so I shined the flash light on her. She scrunched up her face. I moved it away, and her face relaxed, then when I moved it back, she scrunched it up again. I did it again just to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing, then I felt like I was an old meany, by shining a light in that poor babies eyes.
Anyway I just thought it was interesting.

That is really cool! I never knew they could see anything while their eyes were still closed.
How is Heidi doing with you petting her and the kittens? Is she preoccupied enough with the kittens that she's less concerned about you petting her now?
I hope everyone is doing well.

I don't think I will be allowed to pet the kittens for a while. I went in to check up on them when I got home from work. I peeked into the kennel, and Heidi was gone. I leaned in to get a closer look at the babies and Heidi came out from under the dresser growling and hissing at me. I have had a nagging worry that because she is inside, and not totally adjusted to a home life that she might abandon her kittens, or because of stress even hurt them. I have seen it happen before. Well her reaction put my fears to rest. I will have plenty of time to play with those babies. Once they start to explore, there is no way she can guard 5 of them, and keep them away from me. I guess I will know when I can touch them, without getting hurt. I just need to keep a safe distance for now. She is a good little mama. I am so proud of her.

I have never taken a road trip with kittens. It might be fun. I really hope Heidi starts to settle down a little bit. She doesn't want me anywhere her babies. I will need to start playing with them when they are 2 weeks old. At least that is what I have been told. I will see what I can do, but I don't want anyone to get hurt. You know I just had a thought. Mingiz, and Terry, if you could come help me play with them, you could just take your kitties back home with you.

Oh don't tempt me! With all of our cats being fixed now, I never get litters of kittens to play with anymore. (I know, that's a good thing, but I do miss playing with the little cuties!) Little Ms. Heidi wouldn't have stood a chance with me - I'd have been in there stroking her while she was having those babies, and I would have been petting those kittens as soon as she had them cleaned up and nursing. I just can't help myself! They are going to be mobile before you know it, and she's going to have a hard time keeping you away from 5 kittens at the same time once they are up and running around. In the meantime, just keep trying, and enjoy those little babies!

I grabbed a couple kitties and held them for a little while today. Heidi got a little nervous, but she didn't try to bite me. She has moved her litter under the dresser for now, which makes for a longer reach to grab a kitty. I think she is trying to keep me from them. I also took a couple pictures while I was in there, I thought I would share. The babies have their eyes open.

i did a road trip with a lose cat in a truck, it was 4 miles each way, it was NOT fun. however i grew up with a cat that went campfire camping, and to horse shows too. he started out road tripping at a young age, and even went from michigan , to florida, AND enjoyed traveling.

My KeKer Kat did the same. He went horse camping with me. And we would take him to the city house when we were working on it. When we moved to MO. I put him in the LQ first and when we stopped I let him out of the bathroom. When I put him back in there. He was screaming to get out. So we put him in the back seat with Sweet Pea. He rode all the way from VA in the truck..

I got some new pictures of the little darlings last night, I wanted to share. Mommy, the boys won't let me eat. Mommy, the boys won't let me eat. MOMMY! These two are the most friendly. I think the little black and white one is going to have long hair. Look, she is trying to take a picture. Quick everybody, jump out of the basket.

Oh my goodness, they are growing so fast, and they are all absolutely adorable! I love that little black and white one!! I'm so glad I "ordered" him/her early!
I don't know how you do it. If I had that much furry, cuddly cuteness in my house I don't think I'd ever leave the room to get anything else done - I'd be too busy playing with all of them!

It is really hard not to play with them all day. Terry I think yours is a girl. I am pretty sure the orange ones are boys, and I think calicos are always girls. The reason I am not really sure on the little black and white one is because she is so fuzzy I can't really see.
