I am not sure if we are done or not. When I went in to check Heidi I saw a tiny yellow kitten in the middle of the floor. It wasn't moving so I was really nervous when I picked it up, but found it was alive, warm and dry. Heidi was in the pet carrier so I put it in with her and it crawled right up to her and started to nurse. I can see two others There is also a black and white baby, and a little calico. All three appear warm, dry, and active. Heidi didn't react to me at all, but I saw her raise her leg so her kittens could nurse better. I will keep a close eye on her today. Wish us luck.

Sounds like Heidi is a good mom... BIT overwhelmed but a good mom...
I love baby kitties and puppies but only have so much home space to share with them...I would take them all if I could.

Congratulations!!! Sounds like Heidi is doing a good job (except for leaving the one kitten in the middle of the floor ), but now that you've got that kitten in there with the rest of them and everyone is nursing, hopefully it will be smooth sailing from here on out. If it were me, now I would start petting Heidi and gently stroking those kittens every chance I got!
I can't wait to see pictures!!!

I was afraid to disturb her to much right away. I was afraid she might reject them. She didn't seem to mind my peeking at them though. Her belly still looks pretty big to me, but I hope that is just fat and not more kittens. I believe she gave birth out in the middle of the floor, where I found the yellow kitten, them moved them into the kennel. There is a mess on the carpet there, but that will clean up later. I will just keep checking on her every little while.

I have a call into my into my vet. I know there is more kittens because I can still see movement. She has not had a kitten in 5 hours. He called. If she doesn't have another by 3":30 I am to call back, and we will decide what to do for her.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and Heidi. I hope she pushes the remaining kitten(s) out on her own soon! Does your vet understand that this is a feral cat that you've been working on taming? I can only imagine how stressful it will be for her if she and her babies have to be crated up and taken to the vet right now. Please keep us posted on her progress.

He understands she is feral. I think he also understands that she is a future pet too, but if not I will be stressing that point. I really hoped she could just have her babies with out any problems. Truthfully she might be doing just that, and I am just a worry wart. Don't know, but I would rather error on the safe side, and involve the vet if we need him.

just talked to my vet who said, it is best to just get out of her way and to let her do her job. Ok I will, but I am still going to worry.

I'm not sure I am trying to leave her alone, but we either have a little grey tabby or another calico.

Oh my goodness! Are we up to 5 or 6 now? I'm glad things are progressing fine naturally. I wonder if she's done now, or if there are more to come?

I think five. There could be another one hiding though because it is hard to see into the kennel and I don't want to disturb her. I think we have a yellow tabby, yellow and white tabby, black and white, calico, and grey tabby. That is the best I can do for now.

What a long day for her and for you. perhaps have some fluids ready for her when she wants it. either water or milk with water in it and a little kayro syrup or melted sugar. i would think when the time comes and you can change things around a small kiddie pool would be perfect for those little ones to explore on with out getting that far from mom.

I think we are still at 5 kittens. I really can't see any more. The one I thought was a grey tabby is actually a calico with some stripes in her dark fur. I have food and water right beside the kennel for her if she wants, but I don't think she has come out of there at all today. I turned off her light, but I kept the back porch light on because it shines a little bit through her window. Poor little girl, she is so tired. The kittens all seem to be nursing well. I can't check to see if she is producing milk because I can't touch her, but I imagine she must be, the way her babies keep going after her. Her belly still looks pretty good sized, but I was thinking, my belly was still pretty big after I had my babies too. It was very disappointing to have to wear maternity pants for a couple more weeks. Maybe that is what is going on with her, after all she had 5 babies. I do hope she is all done and can rest now. Poor darling.

Heidi had one more kitten sometime during the night, but unfortunately we lost it. I don't know if she was just to tired, or if she just took to long to deliver it. She did get up and use her litter box, but she hasn't eaten very much. I will call the vet on Monday and see what food he suggests, to give her the calories she needs to feed her babies, and keep herself fit too. She is using the little black and white one for a pillow, but you can see the other four.

Aww, how sweet! Heidi and her babies are all beautiful. Thanks for sharing a picture of the happy family.
I'm sorry one of the kittens didn't make it, but I'm glad the rest are all doing well. Since this labor took so long, and one of the babies didn't make it, it's probably more important than ever to get Heidi spayed once she weans this litter, so I'm glad that's what you were planning to do anyway. She and her babies are all very lucky to have you taking care of them.
As far as what to feed Heidi while she's nursing, I always gave my momma cats their choice of foods at each meal. In one bowl I put their regular cat food, and in another bowl I put kitten chow. Most of the time the momma cats seemed to pick the kitten chow. I think it gives them more of what they need while nursing than the regular cat food does.

That photo is amazing, all those little puff balls all cuddled up to their mom. and she is sooo tired. too bad about the last kitten. . and we are all thankful these are all healthy.
as for food. perhaps warm milk could be left there.for her to lap up. since my thinking is perhaps milk will help make milk??

I think my vet told me at one time not to give my cat milk, and that some adult cats can't tolerate cows milk. I haven't given her any milk so far, so I don't know if she can tolerate it or not. However I am sure they sell cat milk at the grocery store. A girl I worked with was feeding it to a baby kitten who had lost it's Mom. I read the container and it said it was formulated for adult cats. I pointed that out to her and suggested she get kitten milk from the vet instead. She thought the kitten looked fine, and she didn't need to change the milk. Sadly they lost the poor little guy. I think I will run to the store in a little bit and get some of the cat milk. It isn't real milk, but if it encourages her to drink more that should be good for her milk production. The kitten chow should give her more fats, so she should be able to provide rich milk for her babies to really grow on.
Yes I will be having her spayed as soon as we wean those babies. The should be weaned in 6 to 8 weeks. Tame or not she will be going to the vet.
The kittens are starting to have fat little bellies so I know her milk has come in good. At first I couldn't detect any swelling around her teats so I was worried she didn't have a good milk supply. Well I still can't see any swelling on her, but I can sure see it on those babies fat little tummies.
Heidi still looks tired, but she has been up eating, drinking, and using her litter box. Bless her heart. I think she did a good job.
