Well we got most of the roof on. Tractor took a crap. Think the solenoid is bad. So we had to hoist the trusses up by hand. CJ helped with the middle ones. I had a neighbor kid help us and he was a big help. But the guy I hired to get the frame and roof on is SLOWWWW!! Plus he does things different than the way Tony and I would have done. But we can't be getting up on a roof. But here are some pics of the progress. We finally got the tractor started so we could get it out of the field. Lint had called Tony and told him how to get it going. There are a few more braces to do for the roof then the tin will be put on. As slow as the guy is it may not get finished tomorrow.. But I'm praying that it gets finished tomorrow. He is only available on weekends.
The Main Frame
Trusses going up
Roof bracing for the tin

It's just going to be a run in shed. I use round bales. I have another barn for those. My plan is to get the land fenced in and then have 2 large fields. Next year I hope to have a 30 x 40 enclosed barn built. That will have 3-4 stalls. I have 4 horses now. The trusses and framing were from my other barn that was taken out by a tornado back in May. I just wanted to get something up before winter and this spot was a good level spot.
I have only owned this place for 2 yrs and we have done a lot of cleaning up and had one section of the field cleared. One day the other section will be cleared and may be we might get some grass to grow between the rocks. If it doesn't totally break me down...After this barn is done. We hopefully will get back to putting up more fencing.

We will line the inside walls with plywood and the tin on the outside. The plywood will be almost to ground level.

Would you like to come build my hubbys next garage? About those dimensions...little bit longer so he can get his truck inside out of the sun.. Seriously, looks good Ming!!
Can I ask what type spear you use to move those round bales? We just bought a tractor and are considering rounds and saw so many different looking "spears"...

I have always said of myself it helps to be strong of body and weak of mind.

Your hubby is on his own.. We have a 3 point spear for the back of the tractor. It works ok for us. If you have a bucket they make an attachment that bolts onto the bucket. But you have to have enough weight on the back of the tractor so it won't tip your front end down. For you unless your going to stack them in storage the rear 3 pt system is great. Like this one but older...

Well min, that makes sense.. another question?? why metal on the outside walls and not rough cut or t-111. i used for painting the outside. used motor oil and it has lasted ages. and if a wall is kicked it will not dent. jmo..
and hl4l. i have both. the one that attaches to the front bucket and a three point for the back. you will be surprised how handy they come when moving those rounds. and remember do not move them with them raised too high off the ground.

We will put boards on the bottom and build up the floor even though it's fairly level. (For here). I went with tin because I didn't want the maintenance. My horses aren't destructive. Even with the other barn they didn't damage it. I will line the walls with plywood. The only time they will probably be in there is feeding time. They hardly went into the other one except to eat. The tin has a 40yr warranty on fading out. Plus it's cheaper than T111. When I do get the bigger barn the stall walls will be lined with 2x's When they aren't in the barn they won't have access to it. It will be fenced off. They will learn to come in when I open a gate and go to their stall.

You have it all figured out, just wanted to see if i could do something different with a run in shed other than what i have been doing. rough cut wood .. etc. and yes your plan sounds like it will last a long time.

How did it go today on the barn? Did you get done what you expected?
I will start a different thread with a link to the barn I built to move from pace to place. I have not moved it for years though.

Didn't get to much done. He finished what ever he was doing on the roof and I think he got 2 or 3 pieces of tin on the roof. I think Tony and I will work on it now that the first pieces are up there. Tony said he can do that. But it may be a few days now. We have rain and suppose to have flooding in some areas.. So it's on hold for now. It was a cold day yesterday so I stayed inside. No need for me out there. I did get this pic.

Way to repurpose the materials left over from the tornado How deep did you sink the main, structural, posts? Did you concrete them in? Didn't you also buy a HayHut for your round bales? Very nice way to develop your property into the horse farm you want I'm hoping we are putting our wrap around porches on, in the next few months. Waiting to meet with the architect, he's busy until December. But hubby and I were talking,.., construction will put other stuff on hold for awhile. Might not get to travel this spring,.., oh well, porches are worth it to me!!!
