Just love that little horse!! Finally making some headway toward the 'Summer of Zippy & Dinah' And soooo fun to ride in good footing, in a nice facility just around the corner. I thought about bringing someone along,., they have a BEAUTIFUL viewing lounge. I need a videographer to take some pics pictures of my lessons. The instructor complimented my seat, and my homework is practice lowering my hands, and focusing on upper body posture. Another lesson on Monday

2nd lesson went GREAT!! Having such a good time and love the instructor!! She definitely 'gets' Zippy's quirks and sees exactly what our issues are. Next week we begin some work at the canter, but shes going to ride him for me. Can't wait!!!! Had some cavelleti built and its getting delivered tonight. Will post pics later pictures

That's exciting! I'm glad you have found a great trainer so close to take lessons with. Thanks MM After all that nonsense last fall with the previous trainer from 'over there', this girl is awesome!! That facility needs to hold on to her for dear life,.., Apparently she did not sign any contract with them, and works as an independent contractor. Probably way better for her,.., she retains some control.

All it takes it a couple of backwards steps to just let you know what you need and should have for Zippy case being that rude and horrible so called trainer was the backward steps. Now all is going forward for you and him. nothing feels better than being positive and looking forward to a lesson and than practicing at home. good for you and for Zippy and the trainer.

Just wanted to update everyone on the 'Summer' Zippy snd I are having apple We have been doing one - one hour lesson per week, and then riding one other day at home. So,., we are trying to ride a minimum of 2 days per week, sometimes 3 days. Honestly, it has been so brutally HOT, and buggy this summer, that if we weren't doing the lessons, I'd have zero motivation. Am so glad that we can use the indoor arena 1x a week Zippy is getting a great work out, plus the trailer ride experience, AND our instructor is fabulous!! Am so happy that its working out,.., just saying graphics-3d-smileys-082254 Not to mention, the Patrick King clinics I did earlier in the spring were great motivation and information too. my network of horsey professionals has really expanded and irs been awesome for both of us. Feeling good about it!!!

I hope we are connecting MM, he can still be a handful at times. Altho, that is one thing I REALLY like about this instructor,., she always reminds me that I am a TRAINER when I ride, not just a rider, or passenger. Her point is that, we are always training our horses,.., so we need to remember that. Good info!!

LOL, Not that anyone has asked me,.., but wanted to comment on this week's lesson with Zippy,.., and share some info/insight that I think is interesting, accurate, and very helpful when riding very sensitive horses. Zippy is a super sensitive horse and responds to the slightest pressure, therefore, I am having to learn that when he finds the right answer, the release of pressure is very important for him, and for his learning. Everything he does is quick, right or wrong, and I am having to become very aware of what constitues as a release of pressure to him and really, really hone my timing of that release, as a reward for continued proper behavior. He is no pokey pony and he is always a few steps ahead of me. Definitely a test of my skills, and timing with such a sensitive guy. But a real sweetheart, and tries hard. I have truly never ridden such a super sensitive horse, and he is fun,., but so different. This instructor has pointed out so much to me, as well, is also having to be skilled with him herself. She loves his sensitivity, and I am realizing that he is fun bc he is a bit of a challenge. I had become sooooo complacent with Red,., he was easy,., and Zippy is my test smart horse LOL, I have skills, but they are going to get better. And I realize that Zippy has a ways to go before we have that bond, but I think we're going to figure it out. He has A Lot of heart,., a very unique creature . Just my 2 cents worth!

That is a great post Red - it takes a real horse person to step back and really try and figure out their horse and appreciate it for what it is. Some horses are sensitive but as you said - they can be a lot of fun. Smart horses are my personal favorite to ride as they make you think - but they can be frustrating.
I love to hear about your lessons and I think the Summer of Zippy is off to a great start!

It really is about my quest for more knowledge too,.., he isn't easy, but I feel he is definitely worth the effort. Fingers crossed that we accomplish our goals. I also realize that my 'hopes and dreams' for Zippy are attainable, but he is not the 'trained' horse that I thought I was getting. He is something different, therefore, I have to adjust my thinking, and explore different avenues of horsemanship. I'm getting more excited about that^ all the time. I guess I'm finding myself going in a different direction than I originally intended, but well worth the journey
