It may just be the angle but it looks like you could shift that saddle back a few inches to fully free up his shoulder. That could very well be possible, I thought myself how to saddle western and I tend to put it on like an english saddle; I'll definitely keep that in mind thanks!

Gerald and I notice that most folks put western saddles too far forward. And I notice that sometimes when I tighten the cinch it slides forward too.
I'm so happy to hear that Sheldon is, pardon the pun, making great strides! It isn't surprising, I mean it's all those lessons and the riders making sure he's being corrected but not punished that add up to a great well trained horse. smart horse

So much has happened since my last post! So I thought we are due for an update Sheldon's training came to a bit of a standstill this winter, there was so much here it made it impossible to ride. In March I moved him to the barn I've been taking lessons at, they have an indoor so I'm able to put the miles on him that I've been needing! Training is now in high gear, we take lessons once a week and he's been improving so much! When we first moved he was a royal pain in the cross ties, now he stands like the little gentlemen he is. Never thought ties would be an issue but it's just not something we have at my moms barn. The girls at the barn all love his silly personality, and find it amusing when he goes fishing for the water heater or finds his way into the hay feeders (he keeps them busy!). As for riding/training, he's excelling quite nicely we are starting to jump in our lessons now and he's picking it up very well! He can be a bit over dramatic and will over jump scary jumps but hey! Atleast he's going over them. I had a fall a couple weeks ago when he decided to slam his breaks in front of a flowery fence. We managed to get over it after so still a win. I'm hoping to get some pictures or videos soon, I'll be sure to share when I do
