an over is a jump that has two rails in it. You can play with the size and the distances but the ones I jump in lessons are usually about this big Me and Randy jumping an Oxer this summer: Don't get me wrong I like riding Zoe (even if she's cranky with other horses). Originally when I started at the farm I was put on her and when newer riders started coming in I got the opportunity to ride Nia --who is now retired for lameness issues. It's really sad because I loved riding her. And then when Nia went off or wasn't available because she has shows or something I would ride Randy (in the pic). He's an other pro. He's 22 and he knows his job!! He was my coaches first serious show horse and he's an other one that's really amazing to ride. For the longest time my lessons where private but in September I had an other lady added to my lesson time (which I don't mind at all!! She's really sweet) but she rides Randy. She's the farms first student so in respect, she get's him. here's a picture of Zoe and I last winter
Side note- Both falls off of Zoe was because of a spook once before causing a refusal and the other a couple of strides after a jump. Both because of falling off the indoor! lol. So I don't really blame her but it add to my previous insecurities. And for some reason since I had the baby I've become a little chicken with jumping. But like I said, after this week I feel a lot better!!

I love your pictures, you're either smiling like the sun is shining or the concentration of knowing where you're going and how you want to get there. That picture of Randy is a real gem in that moment that they capture all four off the ground! And thanks for the jumping lesson, I like those oxers, they're decorative :-)

Ya I found out yesterday that my coach bought him for $17,000!!!! That's INSANE. And to think I've had the opportunity to ride him.. That on it's own is amazing! I couldn't imagine how much Nia was worth. I'll look tonight see if I still have the jumping video of her and I this summer. It's really nice being on those two because I can really concentrate more on myself and getting my proper strides between jumps, my approach, my leads, getting my turns right and all that stuff. There's always so much going through my mind. With both horses they just glide over the jumps and honestly the bigger the jump was, the easier it was! Zoe is great too but she is no Nia or Randy. And like I said, I finally just got used to Zoe's jump again. She just really tosses you forward going over the fences, just kinda how she is. Long term though if I can move up with Zoe it will make me a better jumper in the long run because honestly if you can sit to that horse over a fence you can pretty much sit to anything LOL I can't wait to have my first jump with Sheldon though. All this work is really for him in the long run.

Holy Smokes! I can see you're a good rider but you must REALLY be a good rider to ride a horse that costs that much. Of course for what I've spent on Peaches this past 6 months we're about... okay 1/10th of the way but then again, I'm spending that because I'm NOT a good rider, so its all on Peaches to help me out. Never thought of it that way before.
Anyway, I'm glad you're doing so well and having so much fun, I think that's just great!

Thanks hug s !! I can see you and Peachie excelling a lot this year because 1, it sounds like you now have the right help and two, your getting the chance to work with other horses! A friend of mine challenged me to make a list of all the horses I've ever ridden.. This was quite a challenge because I've been to a few large stables and rode most of the horses there. I couldn't believe it! This is my 10th year that I've been riding and I've ridden over 125 different horses and every once in a while I still add to the list. It's crazy. One thing I find that I found is that every horse has a different lesson to teach you and there really are no two alike. They all have their own quirks and personalities Now that I think of it working with all those horses at one point really helped me develop my own method. I've been to a lot of barns and learned their ways and kinda took in what I liked and fit it into something that works for me. I dunno if it wasn't for all the horses and trainers I've had along the way I feel as I would be a very different rider today

Makes so much sense Shelly! I also think its important to have a plan and do your best to work that plan and by doing that discover the holes and what does and doesn't work. And yeah, for each horse in their own way. It is fascinating, it surely is.
Hey, I've got news but I'm not going to clutter up your thread so when you get around to it, come over to Peachie Plan LOL

So Sheldon decided to hurt himself on monday. I had two young ladies with me who planned on riding with me and we went to catch out horses and we found Sheldon's bobo. It's a triangle shape right below his front left knee and its actually a skin flap, he sliced it right open. So I called the vet so he can get some stitches. Here's what it looks like. I"ll post links incase some people are sensitive with the sight of blood. This is when I found it i78.photobucket.com/albums/j94/foxy_roxy2311/IMG_2284.jpgThis is after it was cleaned and shaved i78.photobucket.com/albums/j94/foxy_roxy2311/IMG_2288.jpgAfter stiches i78.photobucket.com/albums/j94/foxy_roxy2311/IMG_2289.jpgSo Sheldon is now on stall rest for the next two weeks, antibiotics and bute for pain management. He's not really liking living in a stall but he's coming around slowly. I'm really hoping the flap heals well and that the skin doesn't die.

That is a pretty good gash. After Sugar punctured her leg. I bought Vetericyn. That stuff is amazing. Hope he heals up quickly.

Oh Shelly, yikes, but you know, that's very much like Peachie's cut, except hers was straight across rather than triangle but yeah, stitches, bute, antibiotics and the vet wanted stall rest but that was just not going to happen. Stall no rest, in a small paddock rest. She did just fine, other than it was shaved, it is hardly noticeable. I mean you really have to bend down and look. Horses heal amazingly well. Nature weeded out the horses that couldn't heal well tens of thousands of years ago. Sheldon will be back in no time. Peaches was being ridden at a walk after a 10 days and then trotting after 14.
Hey Sheldon! Watch yourself, your mom worries about you! And remember, more money for the vet means less money for treats and playdates!

Goodness! Silly horses seem to hurt themselves on plain air. I'm sure it will heal up quickly since you didn't waste any time getting the vet out. One curious question - is that blood all over his leg in the last picture?
And remember - this is a great time to do some in hand training and bonding with your boy.

One curious question - is that blood all over his leg in the last picture? So that's a story on it's own lol. Yes it is blood in the picture. While Sheldon was sedated the vet was injecting Lidocaine at the wound site so he wouldn't feel anything while stitches where getting done. Sheldon really did not like this so for us to have him keep that leg on the ground, I picked up the opposite leg and it worked really well at keeping him still. Sheldon decided he had enough and jumped up (while I was still holding him--so I let go) and he landed on both knees--Dummy. lol SO the last pic is very bloody because Sheldon went and irritated the wound by landing on it... So he got some more sedation after that and well, could barely stand after and was still fighting it. We eventually got the job done. Sheldon wasn't being aggressive about it but you can tell he was in a lot of pain and just kept moving his leg but when it comes to stitches and needles you can't have any movement so it was a bit tricky. I'm hoping it heals fast, Sheldon's slowly coping with stall life now.

Poor Sheldon- maybe he gets faint at the site of needles? (LOL) wounds like that do heal amazingly well.

Poor Sheldon! aside from the obvious this time, horse's can't usually tell us where they hurt. by spring the photo's will be all that remain's of this, and look at all the extra grooming/bonding time you guy's will have, like mentioned earlier.

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping he heals up nicely!!
Sheldon's been enjoying the extra attention I think but still coping with stall life. Today I let him loose in the barn while I cleaned his stall. I put a few roughage cubes in all the buckets in the other stalls so it gave him something to do. He then proceeded to take down all the hanging blankets on the wall, Silly boy!
Any tips to help conker stall blues?
