My daughter has saved up some money and thinks this is the perfect time of the year to get a horse trailer. I agree, not many people are buying now but in the spring and summer they go like crazy. Ads that I see are up for weeks when the same trailer at the same price would have been sold in days earlier in the year.
Here's what's bugging me. There are ads that have trailers priced really low on some sites such as FreeHorseAds. They're probably half of what they should be. I think they must be scams so I'm scared to even reply in case I'm just giving them my email address to use and pass on to other scammers. But I keep thinking 'what if'. I know trailers are cheaper in the states and worth the trip but my passport is expired and by the time I could get it renewed it would be winter and we're not driving down anywhere in the to bring a trailer back home.
She can only spend under $4000 and for that we'll probably end up with an older trailer or not as old stock/combo with some rust and all steel. She's even considering a two horse but you guys know how I feel about them. :PBoy, it would be nice to have a trailer again. Then I'd know I could go to western dressage clinics next year and we could trailer over and ride with friends. And go trail riding next year. I'm so excited!

Well, you know what they say: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Maybe set up an anonymous email address that you only use for situations like this?
Good luck! It's so nice to have a trailer just for the peace of mind that it is there if/when you need it.

Have you looked at all even with a dealer and see if they will deliver it over the border...yes, you will pay a delivery charge and your taxes but maybe save $$ and have a larger inventory to choose from....
As for possible scammers....set-up a "disposable" email address and only use it for a project like this one...no harm to you if it isn't your "real" email account.
Just a thought...

If I ever get things together you can have mine cheap, it's a 2 horse slant, solid and useable but needs some work, I would ask about $2500, I can't believe the crap that's out there right now!

We found one already! It's a 1998 steel bumper pull 3 horse slant load trailer with a good sized tack room. Slider windows on the butt, drop down windows at the head, roof vents, padded dividers and saddle racks and they swing out. It has a built in tack trunk and windows in the tack room. She's the second owner and has all the records from when it was brand new to now. It went every year to be checked over and whatever it needed done. Floors, tires, brakes are all good. It's not perfect and has some surface rust but it's solid.
I'm so excited and happy!!!

Fantastic! I replied over there but will also suggest here that you look into something like USRider. it is a great thing to have if you are going to be hauling around. Just something to think about. I only just signed up this year so I luckily haven't had to use it but I have friends who have required their services before and were happy to have it. Pictures?

The trailer is made by American. The only other trailer I've ever seen made by them was owned by the BO of the place we boarded at the longest. I remember when it was brand new, it was a beautiful trailer, very high end for that time. Actually, it's fairly high end now if it were in like new condition. Is anyone familiar with the brand? I can't seem to find anything on line.
I have a quick story about their trailer. When my daughter first got into our local horse club she was ten and had her first horse, a 12.2-13 hh pony. I had bought a trailer I could afford which was a home made single axle trailer. Nothing fancy but we didn't have to go far. I'd brought it home the day before her first show and there was an issue with the wiring and it had burned out my fuel pump so my truck wasn't running. I called the BO and asked if he would drop off the pony for us as my truck was being repaired and would be done by lunchtime. So for her first show she arrived in style in a fancy, brand new horse trailer and my daughter was so proud! I can still see the doors opening and that cute little black pony hopping out of the back. So maybe we have a soft spot for this trailer because of that.
Here's some pics from the ad. The rust is almost all surface rust other than one spot that's right through but my daughter works in an auto body shop so she can make it look like new again.

Thanks you guys! It's hardly like our last trailer which was brand new but it is the exact same style and I'm so happy it's enclosed at the back. Most of the trailers in her price range were open stock/combos. So cold in the winter and if you put plexiglass in the windows they're hot in the summer. If you leave them open they fill with drifts in the winter and are so cold if you have to take your horse anywhere. Now we can get our many tubs of horse stuff out of the basement, too, and into the tack area.
It's nice to know that if we do want to go somewhere we can. And I'd rather get their teeth floated at a clinic than at the barn.
The other good news is that my good friend is moving her horses to our barn at the end of the month. She's the one that has the TWH that used to be mine and two quarter horses. If I'm well enough to ride during chemo it'll be so much fun but either way my daughter will have someone to ride with.

What a great deal, and your friend to boot. Congratulations. I hope your Chemo allows you to be able to ride with your friend, but if not you will have many healthy years to ride once it is over.

Nice trailer Does it have roof vents over the stalls? Even with the side windows you don't get a lot of air flow with a closed front/back. I would even put the circle type vents on the front of it. That you can open when in route. Also add roof vents is it doesn't have them. Congrats on your new toy!!!

It has a roof vent for each horse Mingiz. Thanks for the suggestion, though. It's home now so it'll get some cosmetic help before it goes to the barn.
