Old or young, any animal can have health issues. But younger animals are much easier to adopt (for better or worse) I have no problem adopting older "folks", somebody to love is somebody to love, we all get older.
This may sound strange but I think George is a handsome cat as he is. He kind of reminds of of the Lion King Simba when he was a kitten, a strong jaw, big eyes an of course an orange kind of color. He sure is a love bug, that's all of it right there.

Doesn't sound strange to me at all. I think "defects" add character, battle scars are ruggedly handsome. Most of my boys come from rough backgrounds, and they are all very special, handsome boys. George is handsome, inside and out! smileys-flowers-548267

I agree...their differences just make them more interesting and awesome! It's his battle scar to wear with pride. And it just shows how loving George must be to have gone through so much and still be some affectionate!
Today sucked cause the vet is closed Sundays, so I couldn't visit. Can't wait to visit him tomorrow. I'm really hoping the stitches can come out this week. Vet said they need to stay 7-14 days. Wednesday will be 7 days, so I'm hoping they'll be out by Saturday so he can come home for the long weekend - it's Thanksgiving long weekend up here in Canada and I'd love if he could be home for it!

I keep forgetting he's in a cage. I want to picture him in your loving home. I will pray for him to have healed fast and strong so he can actually be in your loving home!

Yeah, I feel bad for him being in the cage but I guess it's safer until the stitches come out.
I was talking to the founder of the rescue on the weekend (for 5 hours! Man that woman can talk!) and she thinks it's so sweet that I go visit every day and can start building a bond with him. I've already fallen head-over-heels for him, and I think he really likes me too!

Of course he loves you, he can tell your heart through your hands! My brother used to call me twice a week, 2 to 3 hours per conversation, all to complain why his life were so difficult all because of our bad HIS parents were to him. This went on for decades! Yeah, some people can talk and the rest of us listen.

Thankyou I agree but with me it's never worked out, three times I've rescued animals they have had heartbreaking issues that broke my heart and in one case a dog I rescued which wasn't even old very nearly killed someone, long story, brain tumour, after that episode I swore never again:( Ill bet this will be your best christmas ever with him in your home:)

Of course he likes you, what's not to like! And I bet he loves you as well!

Yes! He's home! The vet let us bring him home on Tuesday. We figured I could either drive over and visit every day or he could come home and start settling in and I could just bring him in for rechecks. He goes back later this afternoon for a checkup and the stitches MIGHT come out today, if not maybe Saturday. So he's in a room by himself for now, just in case he tries playing with them and the stitches get pulled. Not that I think he'll be all that playful...we've cracked the door open a few times and let him and our cats sniff each other, but he doesn't seem all that interested. He'll sniff them for like 2 seconds then come back to me for more lovings. So we'll see how it goes when he's out of his room. I swear, he is the happiest cat I've ever met! All he does is purr and rub on me.

Awww, George loves his momma and knows she loves him back, that is just the most wonderful thing. You might want to change the subject line, huh?

Stitches are out! Poor guy has to wear a cone though, as he's been scratching his face. Got some more antibiotics just to make sure that with the scratching he doesn't get an infection, and also an antibiotic cream to put on.
He cried the whole way to the vet. It was so sad! I think he might have been wondering if he was going to a new home again. I mean, he was at the old owners', then they took him to the rescue, then the rescue took him to the vet, then I took him home, so he was probably thinking "Now where am I going?" Poor guy. He's happy to be home!
For those who can't see his page on facebook - X-rays were done on Tuesday of his body to see how far the cancer has spread. They did 3 X-rays and didn't see ANY cancer! They did say it can be hard to see cancer in the organs on an X-ray, but they didn't see any in his spine or bones! Yay! And his blood work didn't show any issues with organs, which you would think if they were full of cancer something would show on the blood work. The organs all looked good as far as they could see.
Ideally, if money wasn't an issue, we'd start him on chemo and radiation which the vet said should kill all the cancer. It's highly likely it will come back at some point, but they said he could have another year or two or more cancer free. Sadly, the treatment costs in the thousands, so it's unlikely the rescue can afford it. It's so sad. So, probably won't change the thread title since it still breaks my heart to think that he only has a short time left. He's is such a sweet, happy cat. He's seriously the happiest cat I've ever met, and it's just not fair that this is happening to him.

Sometimes it isn't the length of a life, but the quality of that life that matters. Look at how many lives, Georges life has touched. Imagine how many older felines might be adopted, after potential owners hear his story. Maybe there is another cat owner who is struggling, with a cat with a medical problem, they can't afford to have fixed, who learned that a rescue is an option, rather than letting their pet suffer. You are doing a great job of giving George, the loving home he deserves, and an awesome job of letting people know, the importance of life itself. The importance of being a part of a life, whether it be a cat, a dog, or a horse, or whatever. You care! The importance is in the caring. The caring enough, to make a difference. Caring enough, to risk a broken heart, to make a difference, in the life of an animal. As I am typing this I am smiling at Heidi, the feral cat, who is exploring the living room, with me sitting right here. Oh,,,, the blessed fur, and feather babies, who enrich our lives.

I hope his story helps others! That was the main reason for starting his page! I can't stand the thought that there are other animals out there going through this and not having the help that George has had. Thanks diamond - your post means a lot to me!

George has already saved the life of a cat named Simba. Wednesday my middle daughter called, in tears. That morning she was folding up the hid-a-bed sofa, and didn't realize that Simba was under the sofa. She thought his leg was broken. She had already called the vet and was going to take him in, but she couldn't afford to do much for him. She also couldn't ask her live in BF for help, because he doesn't really like her cats, and would want to have him put to sleep. I thought about George, and wondered if his former owner, had gotten an offer from someone, to help, would they have taken him to the vet sooner?
I told her to take him to the vet, and that I would help out, as much as I could. After x-rays, she was told he had a broken pelvis, and that he needed surgery. Yikes!!! The cost of the surgery would be a little over $500.00. Wheeeeew!! I sure thought it was going to cost me a lot more than that. I had already made up my mind that if Simba could be saved, I was going to see to it that he got what he needed. I am not saying I have an extra $500.00 to toss around, but......
SH, it made me feel even better, to give the credit to George. So you see. His story has already saved the live of young boy, named Simba. I'll have Daughter email me a picture, so you can show him to George. And give him a big old smooch, from me too.

See if the vet takes Care Credit. It is just like a credit card, but you can get 6 to 12 months interest free. That way you can make payments without having to pay dearly to do so!
