I won't be surprised when he lives longer than expected. Love works miracles! smileys-flowers-548267 I remember reading an article about two groups of rabbits that were being used for research. Medically, all the animals were treated exactly the same. They were all given the same food and water. The scientists were confused, because the rabbits in one group consistently out lived, and were healthier, than the rabbits on the other group. They looked and looked to find our why. Then they discovered the reason was the caregiver. The young woman in charge of the healthier group of rabbits, gave them love and attention. That was the only difference.
It takes a very special person to adopt an animal, who you know will break your heart in a very short time. I admire the fact that you are willing to share your heart, full of love, with George. He couldn't be going into a more perfect home.

Aww thanks everyone! I feel very lucky to be the one chosen to care for George in his last days. He is a special boy.
In speaking with the rescue founder, I found out more info about him. His previous owner was an alcoholic. Apparently he could barely afford food for his son because he spent all his money on booze. So it's no wonder he never took George in sooner. As angry as I am about that, I am thankful that eventually the owner did find help instead of doing nothing. I know there are people out there who would have just dropped George off in the middle of nowhere, so at least this guy wasn't like that. Apparently he did go to another vet shortly before finding the rescue group, and the vet turned him away when he told them he had no money. Disgusting thing for a vet to turn an animal away when he was so bad instead of having him surrendered and helping him. That vet has been reported to the provincial board.
Anyway, off to visit the little guy now!

George is a lot more alert today. Couldn't get enough cuddles and love, and was purring the whole time I was there.
He didn't eat today so the vet gave him an appetite stimulant before leaving for the night, so hopefully he eats overnight. If not, they will force feed him tomorrow and try to get things moving.
There's a small spot in the stitches that is bleeding, so depending on how it looks tomorrow, they may sedate him and put a drain in.
Vet wants to keep him until the stitches are out, so 7-14 days. Then he should be good to come home.
He makes the cutest little dove warbling sounds when he purrs. Here's a video of him being a suck and you can hear his little dove sounds :)

Aw how cute! I love his little black nose. Is one of his canines black too? I see a little black sticking out the side of his mouth.

No he just has a black spot on his lip/gum and I think because of the stitches and meds, he's a bit droopy on that side.

I think the inside of his lip is black, I could see a curve in it under the tooth. He is a very handsome boy!

He is pretty handsome, despite everything he's gone through! And he's a pretty big boy, I'd almost say slightly overweight. If you closed your eyes and pet him from the neck back, you'd never know he was sick. I'm hoping since he seems to be otherwise healthy (no weight loss, shiny coat, great personality) that he might surprise us and stick around longer than the predicted 4 months. Right now, I just want him to make it to Christmas so he can have a nice Christmas exploring the tree and batting around crumpled wrapping paper.

LD - I don't know who the vet was unfortunately. I don't think the rescue founder knows, all she knows is what the previous owner said which was that he had gone into a clinic to get help and was turned away :( kskatt - he doesn't have his own page, but I have posted it on my Facebook page if you want to add me as a friend ( here) or you can read about him on the rescue's Facebook page ( here) Hmmmm....maybe I should start a page for him so everyone can track his progress! :)

I accepted and I've started George's page!
Thanks for the kind words. I don't consider myself to have an amazing heart, just doing what is best for George.
(I'd type more but Winky just took up residence on my lap and I can barely reach the keyboard now! LOL)
