Just saw some papers in an ad and the sire's name was (no kidding) "New Sorrel". What a name! Got curious and he is on allbreed: www.allbreedpedigree.com/new+sorrel
Is that considered line breeding or in breeding? I never know the difference. Still can't get over the name. Wonder where "Old Sorrel" is?
. . . . . Ok, never mind. There was in fact an "Old Sorrel" who looks to be a very famous horse from near the turn of the century (foaled in 1915). www.allbreedpedigree.com/old+sorrel
I can understand the name back then...I mean no one really gave their horses fancy names back then. But New Sorrel?

I counted Hired Hand on there seven times! And what's with all the Spanish sounding names, odd. Yeah, I agree, what a stupid sounding name. I think AQHA also should not allow foals to be named something that makes it sound like they're related to a well known horse if they're not. I've seen horses with names that have Peppy, Hollywood, Bar, Skip, etc. in their names but they don't have the big names anywhere in their pedigree. It seems like false advertising to me.

Well Hired Hand is a son of Old Sorrel but I agree - that is so far back it's ridiculous. I too get aggravated with horses that sound like they are related to the big names but upon inspection are not really. Mister's name is really Jays Dee Bar but he does go back to Sonny Dee Bar (he is actually on his papers not 7 generations back). www.allbreedpedigree.com/jays+dee+bar

And Skipper W! I love Skipper W! It's a ways back but I'd still be happy.

That's just because Zena is much younger than Mister! It's only one generation further back than him!

Line is using the same sire bred to mares and after a couple of generations breed those. like hired hand. line bred. in breeding is breeding sire to daughter or mom to son.
i have blazing bars gift who is a stallion that i rescued. and he goes way back . never did trace his lineage.

Woa.... ya that's a lot of line breeding (learned something new! thanks HL) It's a bit off topic but I'm curious of what you think of sheldon's lines. I know a bit about tb lines but I have no idea when it comes to paints or even the Hanoverian side of him. Any tips would be a nice www.allbreedpedigree.com/calling+drcooper
