Does anyone know if you clear and seed land early spring when it will be ready for horses to graze?

I've often wondered about how long it takes to become horse ready after re-seeding as well. I would imagine a lot would have to do with the quality of the land and the grass you use but I don't really know. Looking forward to hearing some answers.

I know we usually re-seeded/over-seeded in the fall, allowing the seeds to set from the weight of the on them then they got a good start to germinate and grow come spring. I would not let horses out to graze on it for at least 4 weeks after good growth has started and grass is up needing first cutting done. The roots need a chance to firmly set or the horse will just yank the entire plant out first mouthful.
Starter fertilizer applied we did both when we put the seeds down then again in springtime to give roots needed nutrients and don't use weed & feed stuff or you will kill the seeds!! smileys-gardening-147427 smileys-gardening-147427 smileys-gardening-147427

We did some over-seeding on part of our pasture early this spring, and then later in the spring we had the entire pasture slit-seeded. We waited a good 4-6 weeks after it started coming up before we let the horses out on it. I like hl4l's suggestion of putting the seed down in the fall, though. That way it can start coming up earlier in the spring. My parents always put their seed down in the fall and they've always had good results, but so far hubby is being stubborn about it and wanted to wait until spring.

I have been told by several people to throw the grass seed right before a big storm. I planted grass last fall, and let the horses out on it, in July. We are so dry I didn't get a very good stand, but I don't think allowing the horses to graze did any harm. It was just to hot and dry for the grass to continue to grow. It is starting to come back now that it has cooled down.
I need to re-seed too. I am interested to hear what others have to say.

Thanks, not as long as I thought, unfortunately the land needs cleared of trees etc first so seeding can't be done till spring but yes one thing I did know was its best to do it in fall just before the dumps:)
