I have to brag a bit...Our dog that we got last summer that had been a daycare dog at my shop and the owner no longer wanted, has turned out to be such a fabulous dog. I have to brag about what he did yesterday. When we got him he was scared of men and bit my daughter when she scared him and even had 'potential biter' on his vet records. He's our chocolate lab/cocker spaniel cross.
Yesterday I took him for a walk in our town park for the first time since my surgery. I can't walk our other dogs because they pull and I can't do it. Anyway, we were walking towards a seated elderly couple and the man asked if they could pet him. Brodie went up to them and let the man pet him but wasn't that interested in him. The woman seemed to be in much worse shape than her husband and possibly had a bit of dementia or Alzheimer's. Suddenly Brodie went and sat right beside her and stayed there without moving. The old lady was able to pet him on his chest where he's really soft with her poor gnarled hand and he just sat there. She kept saying "you're a lovely dog" over and over. Finally she couldn't pet him anymore so I wished them a good day and the man leaned forward and said "thank you so much for letting us pet your dog" so sincerely. It was such a sweet moment and I was so proud of Brodie. He's come such a long way. It made me wonder if he'd be a good therapy dog.

It is possible but animals do have a 7th sense about people and he felt that the women needed more attention than the man. he is a good dog. and he just needed time to find himself. thanks to you . smileys-dogs-171634

Yes it's odd how some dogs have that touch, my Shih tzu is a bit like that, she always knows when I'm sick too and will lay with me all day, can't say the same for the other 2!

Yay for Brodie! I too believe dogs and other animals have a 6th or 7th sense. Let see a picture of this great guy!
Reminds me of a story my grandmother told me yesterday. She was leaving the nursing home after visiting my grandfather when she ran into a lady with a youngish dog coming in. The lady told my grandmother that they were trying again to go visit the residents but that the dog had misbehaved the last time and was in danger of being told not to come back. So she tried to practice with my grandmother who promptly told the woman that she thought the dog might be too young to be a therapy dog at this time.

aw Brodie on facebook, really good looking dog. It would be nice to give him him some noble purpose in his life.

It would be good for me, too. I feel so useless right now with not working or bringing in any money. Brodie has been the best dog while I've been recovering. He'll snuggle with me all day if I need it. Our bully dogs are good that way, too, but it means so much because Brodie was so defensive when we got him. He'd been living in a private home for seniors and one woman had beat him with her cane. This is the place where he'd been crated for up to 16 hours a day and made to sleep alone in the basement in a crate. The husband of the senior's caretaker had been mean to him, too. So he hated men when I brought him home which I knew from having him at daycare. My husband is the one that brought him out of his shell with men. The day I brought him home the woman brought him in for daycare and said she didn't want him and that if nobody else wanted him she'd have him put to sleep.
Here's a picture of our 'miniature chocolate lab'. I think I've posted this one before.

Awwwwww. That story made me cry. What an awesome boy. He probably made that lady very happy while she was petting him. I can only imagine what kind of unspoken communication was going on between the two of them during their time together.

Thank you everyone! He knows how to use those sad eyes, too. That's why he's so spoiled. I took him back to the park today but there were no old people for him to visit.

Aww, what a beautiful dog! I agree that some dogs just seem to have a 6th sense about them, which he apparently has, and he knew that woman needed him at that moment. You should be very proud of how far he has come, and what a good boy he is.
