here are a few pics of the Paint show last week. I rode Magic and ended up getting 12 blues and about 8 reds and 3 yellow. Of course at a 4 judge you get 4 ribbons for each class, so they add up fast! I was a nervous wreck about the trail class and almost dropped out several times. I decided to go in and won the class! This was my first trail class and it was very hard. It had a gate, a backing L, ground poles, a pivot box, a mailbox and a bridge. I cant remember patterns and i was afraid I would forget when to walk and when to jog. We got first under all 4 judges. I was so confident that I went into showmanship and did ok there too..i got 2 2 2 1. Ricky and Albert didnt do as well since there is so much more competition in the regular registry classes. He and Danielle rode a few HUS classes and he did some wp classes and halter. I think his best showing was 4th out of 17 in tobiano color. I thought I had won high point spb but was told i missed it by 3 points, now ive heard i may have won due to an error in point calculations ..we will soon see I guess so on to the pictures..i didnt get many since I was riding this year too We even got first in our wj class

Very nice Gail and a CONGRATULATIONS to you and also to Ricky and Danielle...of course to our magnificent paint horses.... You all did wonderful and should be proud!! ....yes, this should be each of you feeling this way!!
A suggestion for Ricky....when he rides English...a pair of black leather gloves to finish off the picture. He looks good, just needs that polished edge.... Look at his picture then look at Danielles'...there is just a finishing "look" to round out the appearance. {If you notice the class line-up shot, near every rider has gloves on...}
TO ALL of YOU..............

Oh my! CONGRATS to all of you! That is wonderful!
I had to chuckle at the first picture - Ricky and Al have such great expressions on their faces.

Funny thing about the gloves...we went to the fancy English tack shop and bought 2 pairs of nice black gloves....Ricky immediately put them in his jacket pockets...poor guy was so nervous, he forgot to put them on!

Hooray for you guys! Everyone looks fabulous! I'm thrilled to see paints with good bone and legs, too. Please let the thin boned, tine hooved stock horses be a thing of the past...

ld... White gloves are very nice, but improper in English classes as Ricky was doing. They are permitted if not a must in dressage competition...I have never seen black gloves on a dressage rider during competition in the ring. I don't think even at low levels of competition...
Black gloves cover a multitude of riders errors of fingers open, fidgeting the reins and such. They blend in... White gloves emphasize and call attention to the hands, any movement of them or the fingers and any "nagging" done.
I was taught that dressage is the silent motionless communication between horse and rider...you should never detect a "cue" of any kind, ever. wag finger Why I can never understand the constant moving, nudging lower leg of the rider when in motion. It to me is distracting to watch that leg pump, flex, stretch and bump, bump, bump and not be a steady quiet "aid". :-/Lower levels to the very highest...that leg is constantly moving....drives me nuts when I work so hard to have a quiet leg and not be a "nag"..

nhg...I so agree!!
It is GREAT to see a paint horse look like a paint horse with real Quarter blood background of sturdy bone.
So tired of seeing these frail looking Quarters and Paints that resemble the finest boned of Thoroughbred and Arabs...
I truly like the look of the "old" style foundation bred horses...horses like Ricky and Gail have!
Like I said, "They should all be so proud!"....... Best part is they have done so much of the work themselves...how many others sitting in those rings can say that...very few I bet!!
toast to all of you on such a fine accomplishment!!

Weird, in scotland it's a done deal to wear white gloves so the judges can see exactly what your hands are doing!

I think you all looked great, and your horses are amazing. I think I could just sit and look at paint horses all day.

I forgot to mention one very important thing about this show. Ricky got to live out a long time dream . He rode Albert in the Calcutta bridle less western pleasure class. They didn't win, but they performed flawlessly! Ricky was so excited about that class. I will try to dig up a picture of the class to post when I get home tonight.
