So I need a new helmet. Realized it's been about 6-7 years and mine is looking pretty worn. No accidents in it but still, it's time.
Which means I've been looking over horsey catalogs, websites, ebay, etc. And that's FUN! Except... wow... sticker shock. Seriously who has $500 of disposable income for a helmet?!? Yikes! Dover has the one I want on clearance right now for $39.99
This brings me to the point of the post: am I thrifty, cheap, realistic? Do you think prices of "horsey" gear have gone way up? I was glancing at some other items: breeches $200+, fleece jackets $80-$90, wellies $200. Holy Cow!! I could buy and board another horse for these prices- who is buying this stuff? I buy breeches on ebay for under $20. I will spend on certain items like a high quality horse blanket, or serious winter boots for me.
Not only our stuff but in general prices seem crazy compared to income. My bf needed new sneakers and he was shocked that they cost $70 now. Jeans advertised for over $100! Bags for $100's. Boots and coats over $200. Who has this $$? I shop on ebay and love thrift shops & tag sales. Kmart is my friend. No way could I dress for work if I had to buy only retail. I guess it just makes me feel crazy that we work hard, pay our bills & then are expected to pay out a month's rent to buy a coat & boots.
