i am about ready to scream!! i have been on Coumadin, an anti coagulant since my 3 encounters with blood clots. getting my dentist, doctor, oral surgeon, and the nurses that monitor my thickness of my blood ALL on the same page has turned into a nightmare. i cant have any coumadon for 5 days prior to surgery, so i have to take shots in my stomach 2x a day. that is no big deal, except in feb. i had a colonoscopy, that MIGHT involve bleeding, so i did the shots ... for 9 wks!! i still have deep, hard bruises from then. the problem thickens... my teeth need to come out, 12 of them surgically ... 4 (max) at a time, the rest pulled. i have good (?) medical ins. through hubbys work, medicare (no dental) and medicaid, BUT no hospitals in a 250 mi. radius accept medicaid. i have been on permanent disability since 1999. to go to the hosp., and have it done, likely all at one time will cost between $35,000 - $55,000, and of course THAT is where i think it should be done considering the last blood clots i had got me 5 days in intensive care with lungs full of clots, and pneumonia, 8 days total in the hospital. MEANWHILE, i am on 500 mg amoxicillin 5x a day, my whole jaw hurts, and i need to have another "consultation" with the oral surgeon on the 8th of sept. so by then i will have another infection (5 since may) i cant imagine what this is doing to my body!! multiple sclerosis is an "auto immune" disease sooo, i am basically killing any immune system that i DO have left?

Holy Buckets Mrs. Mule! Can I come over to clean your horse, weed your garden, clean your refrigerator, kitchen corners AND toilet. I am so so so SO sorry. I am not going to complain about my health again. What can I do for you... from MN?

Sad to hear about your health issues, you can take a probiotic (acidophilus bifidus) and eat yogourt daily. It will help you still have "good" bacteria while on the antibiotic, you just can't take it with your other pills (usually given an hour after). This is a common practice that we use at the nursing home that I work at (I'm an RPN). Hope everything turns around for you, health is no laughing matter.

Mule...you mean to tell us that if emergent care was needed you must travel 500 miles for care? You might be dead by the time you arrived! Is there no way this can be done local as emergent surgery due to your compromised health condition... I just have no words..... I can only offer ....

I live with some with chronic medical issues so I can at least sympathize, if not empathize.
With two shots a day, that sounds like Heparin. There is another medication, that requires only one shot per day. The name of it was Loxanox. 1 shot per day and less bruising.

OMG, what you're going through is horrible. I'm so sorry.
We're so lucky to have the health care system we have here in Canada. I don't even want to think about what my cancer treatments and surgery would have cost. Just so you know, if you have infection in your teeth/gums, they have to get rid of it so the freezing will take. Infected teeth don't freeze. I don't know if that makes you feel any better.

You are dealing with so much. And having to worry about insurance on top of not feeling well is just not fair. How ridiculous that a hospital wouldn't take medicaid!!! I hope that the oral surgeon is helpful, Good Lord......
