sleep So the story goes... there was once a seaside village where quite suddenly one very hot, sunny day the beach was covered with hundreds of stranded starfish. All the villagers stood around talking and watching this spectacle as the starfish slowly dried up. Except for one young girl, who gently picked up one starfish then another and another, bringing them back out to the ocean. The other villagers laughed at her and jeered saying what difference could one person make when there were hundreds of starfish on the beach! But the girl kept on with her task and simply said, "I know I can save at least one starfish." When I brought my OTTB home (who was pulled from a killpen for $250 but then the lady lost her place to keep him), my bff said "Oh what a beautiful starfish you've saved" and told me that story. I always think of it when I hear of someone who helps a horse out of a bad situation. Somedays that's all we get, just one by one, even when we wish we could save them all. If you liked the little rescue story, pass it on! thank you

Thank you for sharing that story. and yes i say that many times. even to the people that say they are not in a horse property and havin g horses is not their thing. i tell them to donate 10.00 to a rescue and let them find a horse to save. every little bit helps to save just one i have saved hundreds and every one of them are special and i have 10 now that i have saved and promised a lifetime of pasture and love and food.

I love that story. One time when I brought a horse home from the auction my husband said "that's your starfish" because he knows how much it means to me. I heard it a little differently, though. The person was throwing starfish back into the sea and someone came along and asked why they were bothering because they couldn't make a difference when there were so many. As the person threw the next one back into the sea they said "it made a difference for that one".

That's a great story! Yep, we can all make a difference even if it is a small gesture.

I'm literally crying reading all of this; for the sad things and for your beautiful, golden hearts I've found that "rescue" only describes the animals living arrangement, not anything else about them really.

We save them from a sad fate. but in reality they rescue us. When we go outside and hear them whinney that first am greeting, than they put their nose next to our ear.and you can hear that breath , that is rescue. when i have a horse so abused and so non trusting it takes a year for her to show trust and affection back. that is rescue. and i have promised these horses a safe life forever. to me that is rescue. and hopefully everyone can help save at least one, even if it means to send $5.00 to that rescue to help save one.
