Ok need some advice on how to remedy this. I ride in jeans and western. Yesterday is wasn't really hot. But I got this heat rash on my lower leg and it wraps around. Nothing touches them except for my socks and jeans. Seems like I get it every time I ride now. It doesn't hurt, well maybe a tad. But getting tired of it.

Wow that looks like it would burn. Are you wearing tall cotton socks? I wonder if that would help keep the sweaty legs from rubbing on the rough denim? And maybe wick some moisture away from your legs at the same time?

Yes I do wear all cotton socks calf high. And I had on a soft pair of jeans on and ankle high boots. Should I wear a knee high type? Seems since I have gotten older this has started. Sucks Too!!!!

Have you tried something like using a medicated powder {Ammens comes to mind} before putting on your socks?? You know kind of like flouring a pan so nothing sticks... .....

In another forum people suggested that it is caused by the elastic in the socks. That they wear a hypo allergenic socks. Also mentioned using a powder of sorts . I might try different socks and the powder idea...They don't really hurt just a slight burning sensation like a sun burn... MM yes I have rosacea on my face but it never looks like that. And I do bush easily...

Ouch, Mingy! That looks painful! Even if it's not really, it sure looks like it hurts. I have never seen that happen before, so I can't offer any advice, but it sounds like you've got some good options to try. I hope at least one of those options works for you.

I have latex allergies and they don't look like that, I had a huge flare up on my ankles and feet after wearing scuba booties, man it was itchy, is this itchy?

Not itchy at all. If anything a tad of a stinging feeling. If I rub it. It's got a tender feeling. I'm going to try the hypo allergenic socks. I'll have to order them. Can't get them around this town.

Hey Ming....I know you were wearing pants... But when you ride does the sweat from the horses ever get on your pants? My saddle {English} the leathers offer no protection so when my legs were in close contact with the animals side my breeches would get damp... So I am wondering if you changed anything like saddle soap, horse shampoo, conditioner...fly spray you could of gotten a reaction from from that...
Long shot...yes I know.
My husband has a reaction looks sort of like that but his is a size of a small orange on the back of his calf muscle... sunlight intensifies the problem. Doesn't hurt, doesn't itch, looks ugly as heck... his is from a case of sun poisoning he had and now it triggers from sun exposure whether sunscreen applied or not...
Your legs look like sun poisoning to me occurred...but under jeans...a mystery it is!! Being between knee and ankle makes it even weirder...

Hmm, I personally would go see a doctor, I don't see how it can be an allergic reaction unless to horse sweat like HL4L said, socks would cause it on the feet too, I know mine did, heat rash which is what it looks like would be farther down too surely plus have cleared up by now, is it any better, is it drying out, any raised bumps?
is it all the way round your leg?

HL4L The only thing I used on my saddle is Leather new. But have never had issues with it. Nothing with my saddle touches the front of my legs. I did notice my jeans sticking to .me as it was a warm day. I bought some diabetic socks to try next time. The only think I can think it is or could be just maybe my jeans holding in the heat. Around the house I wear shorts or sweat pants to work in and never have had it It is slowly fading, no bumps. IT has to be a heat type rash. Maybe it is the socks and jeans hold heat. So I will try the socks and powder next time and see what happens. Dr. on Monday so if any is left I will show her...

Hmm... not on your feet, only on your legs. Interesting. So couldn't be the socks, I'd think. Think hard, are you washing your socks in a different load than your jeans? Could there of been a chemical/material on an article in the jean laundry load that had something on it, hydraulic fluid for instance, that wasn't in the same load as your socks?
Could the detergent or fabric softener formula of been changed by the manufacturer but not noted on the label? Sometimes they list an ingredient in such a way as to allow them to chose from a range of ingredients which produce the same effect, have the same function but are actually different chemical compounds. And even if its the exact same chemical being purchased for the formula/recipe, if they source it from a different manufacturer, there can be auxiliary chemicals associated with the purchased chemical due to manufacturing processes which don't have to be listed on the label. So you could be reacting to a change in a product you've used for forever because they sourced their ingredients from a different wholesaler.
And then there's the old, never were sensitive to it before and now you are. That happened to me with poison ivy. That happened to me with milk. Two different biological processes but no negative reaction for the first 1000 or so incidences of contact/ingestion and then things went downhill after that.

Oh and by the way, cotton is manufactured with some pretty nasty chemicals but other than that cotton soaks up sweat and keeps it in its fibers while wool will wick it away from your skin. I wear thin wool socks in my summer hiking boots (daily work wear as you may know I tromp around in woods, prairies and wetlands for a living), never, ever cotton and to say I sweat is an understatement.

Hey min! How's the rash? Did you ever figure out what caused it or what it was?

The rash is gone. It was gone in a few days. I bought some new hypo allergenic socks but haven't ridden since. So when we get out of this 100 degree heat I will try it again...

Do you have dry skin usually? You could always try putting cream (aveno or something like that, preferably without perfume) then putting on your socks. I know its not always the best feeling but it should prevent your legs from drying up and rubbing while your ride.
