I saw this picture in a sale ad,.., does this mare have a capped hock? I've seen capped hocks before, and I don't believe they result in unsoundness, but they are considered a blemish as I recall. Is it just an optical illusion, or does anyone else think that hock looks strange? Thoughts, comments

She sure looks pretty from the knees up, my concern is her standing under her shoulders in front, this horse seems to have been used alot and at speed work. and without knowing anything about the ad. i would steer clear,. might be good enough for trails and lite riding.

I think her entire hind leg looks rode hard, put away wet....used and abused...to much work and not enough leg maintenance and care given. From her SI joint and hip to the tip of her toe...
She is very striking and pretty yes...
I would not touch her though with a ten-foot pole without a serious, extensive PPE done by one heck of a competent vet who specializes in legs and soundness issues.

I agree ^^ and I actually have NO interest in this horse, I don't even know where she is located?,., She popped up on my FB page in an ad. Just noticed that back hock immediately, not to mention the front end also. I'm sure shes been worked pretty hard, poor sweet girl.

I don't think it's a capped hock, I think there's a marking or bit of dirt that gives the optical illusion. I like her legs. I like the bone and the short pasterns. Also, her front legs are straight, so rare. No over or back at the knee. It's refreshing to see a paint with good bone, these days they've just about bred the legs right out of them. I think the way she's standing is just that she's standing that way.
Sorry, different opinion from you guys!

nice bone, unlike some 1,100 # horses with pencil legs holding them up. i see scars on her hock, but it does not look like the one, and only capped hock i have ever seen. is she sound? maybe now, but her occupation is tough on unprotected, and maintained legs. she has an eager, bright eye, they are probably selling her for a reason ...

I actually like her as well. She seems to be standing over her front legs a bit but it could just be the angle of the picture or they may not of really set her up properly. I think the coloring of her hock may be throwing you (and me) off a bit. I don't particularly like her hind feet, they look a little "clubby" to me.
If I were looking, I might try her out as long as she hasn't been run hard to this point.
