Finally I'm going to go on a trail ride.!!! The place is about 20 miles from the house. So I have my old trusty BP hooked up. The place is called Devils Backbone Wilderness. It's part of the Mark Twain National Forest. The thing that has me most excited is that I'm taking JR. It s been years since I have taken him on a trail rife other than around here. So I'm keeping everything crossed that he is strong enough to do this. The terrain isn't as hard as I rode back in VA. So he should be ok , other than him maybe getting tired I think his stifle will be ok. It's a big test for him. I really miss riding him. Tony and Short are going also. Yes pics will come afterwards.. Maybe Short will take her camera also. So wish JR lots of luck..

Ok here is the link to pics I took today.Short should be adding some also. It was a good ride. Met 2 nice ladies. JR did great!!! The terrain wasn't bad. We did go down a steep soft dirt hill to the river. And he came back up it feeling strong. I'm saddle sore...again. But it was worth it...The only issues we had was that Tony's horse Geno WON"T back of the trailer.... mingiz.smugmug.com/Other/Devils-Backbone-Wilderness/43303360_x3Kh22

Nice...again I'm envious of the beautiful terrain you get to ride over.
I have to ask.... Grey horse "Libby" I think...What was on the saddle cantle that was white? Tush cushion?
So glad you had a great ride and your boy did so well.
And do I now hear a "training session" for a certain horse who doesn't like reverse off the trailer.... 757724

It was a relaxing ride. Felt very comfy with the 2 ladies I met. While we were taking a break on the river. A bunch of canoes came down the river. JR just stood there and watched them float by. Geno the non backer fussed a little. Jessi horse the grey was very alert and wasn't sure if she wanted to run or not.
Yes HL4L that was a tush cushion.
Nest time I have to take 2 PB&J to eat. One for me and one for JR. I used a tracking program on my phone but it only lasted til we got to the river. So I'm going to get one of those battery charger packs for it. But to the river was 7.44 miles. At 1hr 56 mins. avg. speed was 3.84 mph. Top speed 6.21 mph. My Calories 1044. So we did about 15 miles total.
We are going to go back and ride the other trail called The Ridge Runner Trail. Not sure why I'm getting saddle sore so much lately. I have ridden the same saddle for years. With rougher terrain. But this has to stop!!! Otherwise I feel pretty good. But I took a muscle relaxer and an Aleve before the ride and then another half way through...Was a tad stiff getting off.

Short...did it help?
Seriously... I have an opportunity to get a saddle with a rock hard seat, leather on wood.. no padding for real cheap...but what holds me back is not very nice for someone to sit on for a long trail ride. Good saddle for the occasional rider...nicely made and it seems to fit a variety of animals...
Any negatives on that tush cushion...slippery, sliding on the saddle???

The saddle I was using was rock hard seat... it was ok. I am very skinny, no meat to my butt. It did help some. It didn't move at all! I was surprise that it stay in place. It is a cheap tush cushion. I kinda wish I would paid the little extra for the gel cushion.

Ming....we lost your answer. It didn't post correctly. Try Again........thanks. I was telling you that I rode in a hard seat saddle on a ride and after about 3 hours of riding my ass was getting sore. They do make gel type pads. I have never needed to use one as my saddle has a very comfy seat. Hope this helps. The only other saddles I have ridden in that was very comfy and I sold it pre maturely was a Big horn gaited saddle. I have ridden the big horn endurance saddle and it was nice also. My circle Y park and trail I had was comfy. But I put a lot of miles in it and I started feeling the bars. I sold it because it didn't fit JR.
