Would you guys consider using this as a run in for one horse? The framing is perfect for a small lean to, as is the price. Its 12x7 with a nice metal roof, and could probably remove the gate that holds the round bales. Or frame in the short sides and the back, and open up the long side as the front. I'm inquiring about delivery from the owner, and am SERIOUSLY considering this for shade in my field. Price is $1000. without any ideas of delivery fee. Just wondered what others think? Thanks for any input.

Just wanted to add that I'm positive I'd have more $$$ in the same materials, to buy and build new, than to purchase this, and reconfigure with salt treat boards, and the gating.
I had a friend, who's hubby was a builder, build her a small run in (12x20) and she had $5000 in the metal roof alone

I would go for it. perhaps add some wind./rain break on at least two sides so he has shelter from the elements as well as the sun. and of course feed him in there too.
you can always use the rails someplace as hay feeders or separations in a garden .

I am! Just got off the phone with her,., shes $1000 or BO so I think I need to call about transport now. Price it out, and see how much to change it out,.., even if its just there to provide shade with changes, being floor cut out, and sides removed. I could probably resell the hardware. How about that price, anybody know how much they usually cost? I need to look into brand new price as well. Thanks for the input.

Transport is $150 + $3 per 'loaded' mile. Mileage =s 32 miles, or about $100 additional. So, $250 to move to my farm. Thoughts?? Thanks!

I would offer the girl 800 for it letting her know what your transport fees are and that's why you are giving an offer. I agree with HL that you need to put something on at least the north side to keep the sun/wind/rain, etc out so it is a true shelter.

I agree with HL that you need to put something on at least the north side to keep the sun/wind/rain, etc out so it is a true shelter. I'm thinking $750ish bc I'll have $1000 in it with transport. Plus I'll know better when I get up close to it, age, construction, etc. It looks like the round bale, short gate end is probably 4 foot wide. I know exactly where I'd put it, as a divider in my pasture on the east side of my barn. So, initially the barn would help block the wind,.., and I really want it for shade. I don't know what type reconfiguring I'd have to do,.., these hay feeders have a wooden floor also,.., sooooo, anybody know the weight of a round bale?? I might leave the floor, might have to cut it out,.., it provides sturdiness tho,.., Kind of excited,.., might be another 'project' You know how I love a 'project'!!

Sure it is. Just have to make a few adjustments and it will work... Well just tell him " Well dear it would cost more if we had 2 legged kids!"

Hubby has no problem with it,., altho he knows its a 'want' and not a 'need'. The woman wants $800 firm, (altho I played the price down to hubby ) + $250 (+\~) to have delivered. Its a good deal, new these sell for $1895. delivered, and those are slightly smaller in size (10x6). This hay feeder is 12x7, and the opening (the black grill work/short side) measurement is 6 feet wide. Which is wider than I thought. 6 feet wide is a good width IMO, but the floor will probably stay in place, and I'll cover with a mat and shavings. Any opinions, thoughts, suggestions, down sides appreciated. Thanks

No other suggestions. so it sound like the feeder is coming home, sure there will be adjustments for using it the way you want. but feeding him hay or grain in there will be great. just put it not that far away from the entry gate so you do not have to walk far into the paddock to feed or water.

Bought it! Getting it delivered next Monday,.., will update after its here Great price, well done:) Thanks! I think its going to work out great,., its actually 12x6 from the outside of each 4x4 post,.., sooo with overhang, its probably closer to 14 ft length + 8 feet width, with the overhang included. Its mostly about shade in summer, and a wind/rainblock, and I wanted something that didn't require posts sunk in the ground, or $5000 prebuilt. Its on skids, with the pulls, so I can actually move it around the pasture if I wanted, but the posts are going to be incorporated as some of my fencing in my back pasture,..., in due time. Its a 'project' I started when I had 2 horses, and I hung gates and sunk posts to divide off my fields. I wanted a shelter/run in for that back field, without a huge expense. And I think this fits the bill perfectly. In the end, I might have $1500 in it, so thats why I went ahead and went for it. Its definitely 'doable' at that price,.., IMO. I can see it stained a nice dark brown too, and maybe paint the trim/posts a nice hunter green,., also in due time. Its only 5 years old,., she told me that today. PROJECT!
