Yesterday we HAD to brand our yearling Aramis. It is realy a frustrating thing to me, because I do not suport branding animals. The thing with branding a horses in Croatia is that if you have a pureblood horse you HAVE TO brand him in order to get his papers and passport. All of our horses have microchips, but obviously that is not enough. It really hurts my heart when I see a number on a horse, like it is a object.... my poor baby free upload

My last gelding was freeze branded but I had it done on the neck, it bugged me for a while but then I got used to it, at least if he gets lost or stolen he will be easier to find:)

Mister was branded on his cheek when he was a baby (he has a heart with a bar under it). I don't understand why it is necessary but I guess there are certain disiplines that require it (like the Jockey Assn).
Hopefully his hair will grow back quickly and cover it up.

Branding here is mostly out west for identification of the ranch owners. I knew a girl in VA that branded every horse she had with her farm initials. I traded my mule for a walker she had and it had her brand on his hip. I have never seen a brand on the body like that. It hurts me to watch them brand cattle. There hides are a lot thicker. But I cringed when a horse gets one. It has to be painful.

Horselady, we cant decide what type and size of a brand it will be, all Lipizzans here have the same brand. And yes, Viktor, Lisa and Athos will get one as well. I am totally against that, but I cant helped it. And we have to pay for it also -.- This is my stallion, he also have the same type of a brand, just a different number. upload pictures

I realize that the organization is making you do it. i also notice one on the left thigh. what is that supposed to be. why not put the letter and number inside of that? you can suggest it, and i am sure it will fall on deaf ears. your stallion is beautiful .
The same with the Freisan and Hanover. they are inspected than branded but a small either F or H on the hip.

It is a bay leaf. It represent a private breeding. If a horse(Lipizzaner) is breed in some kinde of a stud he gets a first letter from that stud. From example one of my mares is originally from stud Dj(Đ)akovo, so she has letter Đ on her hip. They all have microchips so I dont get why they have to have brands. -.-
