poor little ethel, she is terrified of fireworks, and has to live on acepromazine (dog strength) before, during, and after the 4th of july ! she is 11 this year, was a rescue off my back deck 10 years ago, weighing in a hefty 6lbs. of bones, and skin. she now weighs 14lbs. so you can imagine how sick, and skinny she was. she came to us with a LOAD of baggage, as most rescues do. we tried the "thunder shirt" with no luck, so she will sleep the 4th. away ...

Aww, poor baby. The dogs I used to have were terrified of fireworks (and thunderstorms). The 4th of July was never much cause for celebration around our house because we were too busy trying to keep our dogs calm (and sedated) to get them through the fireworks our neighbors insisted on shooting off each year. One year my husband went to the neighbors and explained to them that, while he didn't want to be a spoil sport, we had 2 old dogs that were both terrified of the fireworks, and asked if they would please stop shooting them off. The neighbor said he was sorry, and that he would go somewhere else to shoot them off. When the 4th of July rolled around he shot them off at his house again anyway (and he still does it every year). I was not happy.

My brother and sister-in-law have two Dobermans. They stay in the basement, sedated, on the 4th. It is a nice full basement, carpeted, so they don't suffer! Big, bad Dobies.

Squeak is the only one I have that is afraid of storms. So I can imagine he doesn't like fire works either. But where we are you won't hear them. Unless someone close by is firing them off.] I was camping and where we were they had something going on at the pavilion and they had fireworks that night. No one came over to the camp ground and said anything. Luckily the horses were ok. I stood next to JR and watched them and he was behind me watching them too... A lady came over asking us if we saw 2 dogs. As they ran off scared and I don't know if they found them that next day or not. She was one pissed off camper and I couldn't blame her one bit.

I have had a dog that hated loud noise, guns fireworks, and no matter what i did he was terrified. so i turned up the tv. and the air conditioners and gave him a benedry with his dinner knowing the fouth of july was going to be loud. where we live now the fireworks from a resort are every tuesday and my one dog loves to chase the noise. he does the same thing with thunder storms. 1fatmule. ethel is a cutie. have you tried ear plugs? i also used cotton balls in the dogs ears. seemed to work until he shook them out.

Aw poor Ethel. They do have their fears. Fortunately I am far enough away that my dog isn't bothered. fireworks-2
