We got a 17 ft x 52in deep pool. We started the process of leveling a spot for it. Yes that was a nice looking lawn. The pool will set between the 2 houses. After it is up I'm going to back the LQ up next to it for privacy and use the awning for shade.. Until we get the funds to build a deck around it. I have found plans for that free on line. It will have a walk around the entire pool and an area for sitting. I got the kids a slip and slide to play with. Nothing major. But more fun than running through the sprinkler. Billie Jo Corrin

A pool is nice especially with the kids. are you going to fence it all around , here they make you do that in case of wandering kids. and sand on the bottom is good so it keeps the pool level and even, sundo not forget tons of sunscreen.

That's a good idea of using the LQ:)
I wish I had a tractor or digger to do levelling and stuff, so expensive to get someone out to do it

No we aren't putting a fence around it. We are very rural and there are no kids except across the road and for the moment she isn't allowed over. Yes we are putting sand down. After we get the site level, we are going to frame a 18 x 18 area with landscape ties then add the sand and rent a packer to get it packed down. Then put the pool up. Once it's up and I move the LQ over next to it. You won't be able to see it at all. Then as we can afford to buy the lumber it will have a deck completely around it with a sitting area and banister.. I'll see if I can find a pic of the deck plans. Hopefully when completes it will look like this

Suggestion...don't pack the sand. Level it yes. The weight of the water will pack it and you and the kids do the project of walking every inch of the floor and foot pack the rest. Although you think it cushy, packing with a machine will make it more like concrete...tough on the legs. More importantly, it will bring the tiniest pebble to the top in a hurry AFTER you put the liner in and fill it with water...poke, poke, poke a hole in your liner is not good.
When the professional installers did my parents pool {we were kids at the time} they used sand, then they used what looked like peat moss {think garden} on top of that for extra cushioning for that rock thing.{I don't think it was peat moss but have no idea of what it actually was called but know if looked like peat moss and came in plastic wrapped bales, like our shavings bag size} We had several inches {mom said about 8"} of padding and we still had 2 rocks pop up through that in a season or two of time... guess who's job it was to dive and do a patch repair and get all the edges tightly adhered... ...
Our pool was a 21' round and a little more than 4' water height. In the very middle we agreed to the suggestion of about a 8" round depression maybe 2" deep.... we at the end of a busy day in the pool would walk the edge faster and faster...whirlpool effect. Adults usually because of the strength of the swirl action were the walkers so you could get out...in the morning we usually only had that small depression area to vacuum out and do the chemicals and the pool was ready to enjoy...it sure made it simpler to clean than vacuuming a 21' round space everywhere...talk about time consuming and sunburn...ouch!! We had no trees near the pool so very little of that mess, but it was amazing how much junk came in on the feet and body...we had a big foot bath too to rinse the sand and yuck off before jumping in...at the bottom of the stairs to the deck it sat... ONLY EVER DO A or ATTEMPT A WHIRLPOOL IF YOU HAVE A ROUND POOL...NEVER A OVAL!!!
Have good memories of that pool and all the fun we had as kids with and without our parents...just us siblings and a few friends only when our parents were home and sitting on the deck watching us carefully so no one got hurt or worse... we could get to "horsing around" real good and playing chicken in the pool is/was fun!!
Have fun & ENJOY!!
and you know more pictures are mandatory... {thanks!}

Oh, that's going to be NICE!!!! I love that deck and railing plan you picked out. So pretty! Looks like the kids are definitely enjoying the slip and slide right now while they wait for the pool.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. I for got to mention that we are also going to put a heavy duty tarp down before we set it up. Just for extra protection. Jess has set up a pool before with her dad. And they live in PA and there land was nothing but rock. It will be Jess's job of keeping it clean and making sure the PH levels are correct. I'm just the one paying for it and get to chunk dunk in it...How did you patch it with water in it?

The pool store had a patch kit that you applied while the water was in the pool but it took care and much patience to get it on right and secure the edges correctly so no air bubbles got trapped that would of made it loosen and come off. I don't even know if the store exists anymore or if they are a nationwide chain...they were named "Harrow's".
Since I had the biggest set of lungs and lung capacity from choir and playing band instruments..the job fell to me.
See... I have always had a ability to "voice my opinion" even as a child it was difficult to shut me up!!
Enjoy the pool and some "playtime"....

Well we worked on the site more today. We just about have it leveled. Suppose to have storms tomorrow. Hope not. Next off to Lowes to get landscape ties to frame in the area. Then if all goes well. The dump truck load of sand will be delivered on Thursday. After that is in and leveled. We will probably next weekend put it up. Since Jess will be off from work. It will be easier with 4 of us. All I can say is damn the rocks!!!! On a good note Lint got hired at a company starting out as a slip driver. ThankyouWhich means if a regular driver needs time off he will drive. So it's part time for now. But hopefully he will get a regular route. He goes back there Tuesday to turn in his paper work they need. Then see when he starts. I'll be so glad to see him back at driving. Now I can get some alone time. I miss being alone!!! Ya know what I mean... I also have yellow squash about 3inches long. My peppers are popping out, we have a few tomatoes. Won't be much but we know what to do next year. We lost a lot of it from the rains we had after we planted it. Oh well...Learn as we go..

Congrats on Lint getting the job! Thanks Terry.. It isn't the company he would have liked. BUT it's a start. We finally got all the tax papers back from the tax guy. So after they are filed we'll see what the exact damage is. So he will be working for awhile to pay that off. exercise Unless he gets some good mileage. Then he can work longer to pay for the new roof. All I can say is sorry about his luck... I'm the type that even if I don't have a dime to my name. My bills are paid. So while he's out on the road I'll be laying around the pool... But most likely I'll be on the tractor setting post.

That design is beautiful. no suggestions about pools, i never had one. but my son just installed an in ground at his new house and used a felt material around the pool to make sure stones are not getting into the pool. i bet that felt will work as well as or better than the tarp. and i bet it will cost less. and congrats on lint finding a small job. and i know what the feeling is like being smothered. i like my alone time also.

I hope one day I can have a pool, not that I'm a good swimmer, think I'll take lessons once I lose some weight,

Jo could you ask your son what type of felt it was. That sounds like a good idea...does his have the liner?
LD if you swam you would lose weight, that is a great workout. exercise I hope to get in it everyday or so. It would be good for me as I can't do the normal stuff because of my joints...
Just got back from an 80 mile bike ride. smileys-cycling-987324Just in time too as the sky opened up.... rainChill time now bratz on the grill. smileys-home-510691

My son's pool is an inground and came on the back of a truck, like a bath tub. huge and it is supposed to be 4 feet deep and gets lower to a seat on one side. they basically set the pool in the ground about 3 feet than filled in around the pool with dirt and gravel around the pool. his property is on a hill so they basically put the pool in the hill. the felt is in 12 foot wide rolls at home depot .47 cents a foot. i stepped on it today and it is soft so would work under your pool
