The farrier came today and put trims and shoes on JR & Reno. I met him as he was grading the county road. He was going along and Lint went out to talk to him about replacing the road pipe at the driveway and making it wider to get the LQ in and out easier. So he left and continued to grade the road. Next thing I hear a knock at the door and it was him. He said I saw your horses and said I'm also a farrier. I never went to farrier school but been doing it a long time. So I got his number and told him well my horses will tell me if your good or not. Well he came today. I was worried about JR. He is funny with his left hind since her blew the stifle. I told him about JR and So he did Reno first then JR. Well JR pulled that leg once and after that he stood like he should. Travis is his name and he works for the county. He was great with the horses and I like him. So he will be back next week to do Rawhide. His price just about floored me though. He charged me 100$ for 2 trims and cleated shoes all around for both of them. Heck I paid that for one horse back home and regular shoes. Plus he has a sense of humor. So I paid him 120 he said are you sure? I was like yes take it. People are so much nicer and don't try to rip you off.

I was expecting you to tell us he charges $100 for a trim... Isn't it nice to pair fair prices.... actually, very fair prices... I think going rate by me is probably close to those numbers too... far cry from $165 for 4 shoes and $60 for a trim where I come from...and it isn't a good job either, just so-so work!! put him on the list of numbers not to be lost!!

That's funny. I met my current farrier while he was working on his roping pen down the road from me. I stopped to introduce myself and found out he and his son work together. They went up about 8 months ago to $30/trim. I always add in $5 more as a tip.
Glad you found a good one!
