well, after gumbos successful ACL surgery in march he was right-on for his recovery, until ... sunday morning he was going out to do horse 633995 chores, AND ruptured his right ACL !! poor guy, just a wrong turn at a walk !! he just had surgery this morning, exact same injury to the fullest extent he could have hurt it. i am a member of the fb group "catahoula lovers" and apparently this is far too common in his dog breed. i am going to contact the dog registry, and ask that this be added to their list of disorders, this has been a $5,000 wake-up call for us, not to mention his pain, and hubby having to take off of work to bring him on four separate 250 mile round trips !

My son has a -catahoula rescue, and the same thing happened! His had to have both rear legs done, it was about the same amount of money. With his dog, the knee would pop out and then he would limp or have trouble getting up. So they did the surgery, and about a year later the other knee started doing the same thing.

Oh no! Poor Gumbo! I sure hope the poor guy is recovering well from his latest surgery. Doesn't sound like things have been too fun for him or you lately.

I think so many breeds of active dogs have this issue. We have labs...and our last one did it real bad. There was nothing left but the skin basically holding his leg together. Screws, plates, wires to put him back together...
Is it as hard to keep your Catahoula breeds quiet during recovery time as a lab?? ... they are also "high energy" aren't they? I told the vet I needed tranqs to keep me sane forget the dog... he was toe touching and walking on it 2 days post surgery.. ....not supposed to do that that quickly... Try explaining R&R to a dog, a 110 pound one at that!! wag finger :|not so comprehending....and when we would take him from his kennel, he was a lunatic...so we let him loose and prayed it would stay together...and walked, hand walked him for weeks. smileys-dogs-171634
Best of luck to all of you...
