Next weekend my bf and I are going to ride his 2,7 years old young mare. Not ride really. I will try to sit on her with the saddle for the first time. Normaly I don't even sit on a horse before 3 years but she has really good bones and she is built like a tenk :-) And I am only 110 lb. Few days ago I mount on her with my stomach and she accepted me really well. Just to mention this horse is not going to be riden , I will just try to sit on her to see how she accepte someone sitting on her back. And she will have rubber bit. We don't ride our horses before 3, 5 years. Wish me luck and hopefully some pictures will be made. Also any advice is welcome. :-)

I don't think you'll need luck, sounds like she's mature minded:)
My irish draft tb was 4 when I started him, he was a late grower and he never bucked once, I just got on and took him a trail ride with hubby on mils horse, we got lost and were gone 3 hours plus, that was him broke more or less!
Just pick a nice non windy day lol!

Wind really bothers horses. Non of my horses like wind. I think she will do fine also. She is nice behaved and calm. Very easy going.

Just lunge her and bit her up and saddle her up than lunge again. we always tie stuff on the saddle for them to get the bucks out. at least if they do buck and rear there is no rider on them. and all this on the lunge line. than being quiet and sooting with your voice. adjust all equipment and one person hold the head and the other step into the stirrup. than slowly put your leg over the rump. not dragging it on the horse. than settle down . breath and let the horse understand you are up there. i rub the from the ears to the tail and on their sides. dis mount, and mount again. even from the off side. good luck and yes photo if you can. and just go with it.

Horselady I dont prefer bucking on the lunge, because I use lunging a lot and don't want a horse to associate lunging with bucking. Never had problems with saddles on a young horse, they all deal with it like big horses, because all of our horses are first learned how to drive then riding, so they are already use to harness so they don't have problems with saddles. The weekend was rany so we did not done much, maybe next weekend if the sun shows up. And advice with the stuff on the saddle is great. Thank you

Huhuhu it has been 9 months since I said we would ride her. Well, I did just sat few times on her, and as she is 3,5 years old now we wanted to start riding. So I did. Sve was like a dream, not perfect(sve was little bit backing when standing) but good for a first time moving with something on her back. She is from my stallion and his foals always have a good personality. Next time we will try to go for a ride with hers mom so we will see how that goes.

That's fantastic! Good job. How nice to have a stallion that throws not only beautiful horses but ones with great minds as well. I think that is even more important than beauty.

Slow and easy and i love when the stallion passes his personality down to the babies, especially the easy going nature. they sound lovely .
