It seems that with membership to the forum it does not require a person to add on the state or city you are from to be posted on your avatar. but it would be nice to know where everyone is from. I did it so you know i am from the Albany New York area
What had me think about this are the photos that Terry has posted about her horse and i wanted to know what state she was from because the photos are really nice.
So you can go into your profile and add it.

I just checked my profile, and it says that I put in my location. How do I make it show up on my avatar?

Go into profile. that brings up your information , than edit profile than go into a box called personal
there should be a place to add your town and state and it will say that it will show up in your avatar. hope that works.
Look for
"Most Recent Status"
Shows up as personal text in your miniprofile and profile.
that should do it.

OK, I finally got it. I had to add it into the box marked "Most Recent Status".

I like the fact that it puts a little symbol to show if you're male or female. On HT sometimes I wasn't sure about someone.
