She is beautiful...
With the beginning of the shed-out taking place...is she going to be a dark bay/brown or go black do you think Lipizzan?

No, no no.. she is going to be white you can see grey hairs on her face. It is very rare that Lipizzan remain dark color. I have two black Lips but 90% of them become grey as they grow.

We dont shave ears. It is just the way they shed. Lipizzans are like grey ducklings becoming a beautiful white swan :-)
Horselady, I know you would take care of her more than anyone else :-)

When I was a child I remember the Royal Lipizzan Stallions coming to our city and going to see them. It was like magic. Because I didn't get my first horse until I was twelve but loved them as long as I can remember I used to draw them and read about them as much as I could. So I read about the Lipizzans. I remember reading that they're all born dark and then become white. But you have black ones. So I'm curious as to why that is and if you know they'll be black when they're born? Do you breed some for black? Do they stay black or eventually lighten up when they get older? And how many people breed Lipizzans in your area? Are they somewhat rare there as well or are they more common like quarter horses are here?

Are they somewhat rare there as well or are they more common like quarter horses are here? I do know when they will be black by the color of foal when he or she is born, they usually have legs in murine color(very light grey) and body can be chocolate or like liver, but by the legs I know exactly what color they will be. Some people do try to get dark Lipizzan by breeding two horses that have a lot of dark ancestors. Our stallion is grey but 50% of his offsprings are born dark, our two black horses are his. It dependes a lot on genes. I think in america for example there is not so many dark Lipizzans due to the limited number of genes and the horse that you have. Dark Lipizzans stay dark, as any other dark horse. Lipizzans horses gradually greys because of specific mutation. You can compare it with old horse, when he is very old he gets greys, right? That is what happens with Lipizzans only much much much more faster and greatly intensified. In Croatia we have the biggest population of Lipizzan horses in the world. So many people do breed these horses. I hope I answer some of your qouestions

Thank you! It's really interesting to me as Lipizzans are not horses that I'll ever encounter here and have the opportunity to learn about other than books. I love having real life information from someone who is living it. So are their colours either gray, black or white? Nothing else? And, yes, gray horses eventually go pretty much white.

Lipizzans are actually grey, not white, because they have black skin and white coat. In all my papers, passports.... it is written color:gray, if horse is "white" of course. Colours that are alowed in this breed are grey, black and bay. here are the living examples of 3 basic colours: MY BOYFRIEDNS BAY SIGLAVY CICA MY BLACK MARE MARA AND ONE GRAY, MY "RHINO" GAETANA, FIRST PICTURE IS WHEN SHE WAS 6 MONTHS AND SECOND IS NOW WHEN SHE IS 5 YEARS OLD
