Yes, that is right. a boarder came in for breakfast this morning with his eye all white and gashes on his face. so called the vet and the owner. Blue has been here about 7 years and sick only one time. Feisty 30 something qh gelding.. The vet shows up and we tranq him and she looks into his eye and it is punctured. well either spend up to 5,000 and the eye might still rupture or take the eye out. for 2000. so he is being shipped tomorrow morning and the surgery is at 10.
prayers the horse will be ok. his recovery is 3 days and then he comes home. thanks.

Thanks, he is so full of himself that is why he is retired. his owner became afraid of him. he kept bucking her off. she has seen him 3 times in 7 years but i do keep up with photos and email. thankfully he is strong and does not look 30 even the vet said he is in great condition. 'will update when i have news.

Aww so sorry to hear about Blue. Prayers that he makes a speedy recovery. The BO has a 31 y/o gorgeous Appy mare who had both her eyes removed (sorry don't remember name of disease) at Cornell about 15 yrs ago. She's amazing- does everything, turnout with the others, leadlines kids a few times a year. Hope your guy adjusts as well!!!

That is amazing to have both removed. yes he is ok i called yesterday and he is doing well. just annoyed that i ordered a bug eye fly mask to keep the netting away from the eye. it should have cups. and the clerk (cluck) sent a regular mask, people just do not listen, i could have gotten one for 1/2 that cost local. and now i am forced to use it , too late to mail back. he comes home tomorrow.

Blue is home and he has this massive head wrap the covers his left side of his face. he is to be kept away from the other horses until tuesday when that wrap comes off. that is the scary part, to see that "eye:
but the worst is over.

We kept him in yesterday and he was quiet. not his usual boisterous self that lets you know he is not happy, today Sunday, he wanted OUT big time. the horse across the aisle just did not do it to calm him down. so hubby decided to let him out, he wanted to see his horse friends. so out the far gate he went . up the hill. and danced around the other 12 horses and one by one they welcomed . him home and asked him what was that on his face., His left side is all wrapped with vet wrap on his jaw and up over his ears to protect that eye. on tuesday the vet will remove it and i will see it for the first time. Yes i am sure he will be ok. and thanks for the well wishes and .

He was a royal rip so we put him in a round pen so he could see the other horses and than the rain came down we had to bring him in . not staying in the run in and i did not want the wrap to get wet.
the vet comes today, Tuesday to unwrap. (now i get to see it also.) a bit nervous about that. and we shall see the progress it made in healing. I do hope he adjusts to this. and does not get lost again. my saving grace is that come mid november the horses are in dry lot for the winter. horseshoe-border

He will adjust... and so will you to his new look. If they removed his eye completely, he will either have a sunken socket or if they put in "filler" it will be flat... should be sewn shut and to soon I think for stitches to be removed.
Adjustment period for everyone... take a deep breath when the vet uncovers and breathe through your mouth, deep cleansing breaths...helps.
{HUGS} for both you and Blue...
Update us once the vet has come & gone and you have a few minutes...

The vet was here and removed the wrap and said it looks great. yes the eyelid is sewn shut for now with the stitches to be removed next week. and yes i did remember to breath. she said it will sink in and with time we will not even know what happened. I hope he adjusts for the last few weeks of pasture. i will update frequently.

Glad to hear the good update. I agree, you will get so used to it that it will surprise you when a visitor notices it as it will be the norm for you and Blue.

That is a tough one to deal with, I've been thinking about you and your horse. From now on it will be better each day. Wishing you both the best.

He is not the best stall staying horse. hates being inside or even in the round pen hates to be away from his friends that he has been with for 7 years. he is a boarder whose owner is having medical issues but thankfully she wants what is best for him. his fly mask is on and tomorrow he will be turned out with the group. i just hope he does not get lost like he did the other day when they all came in and he had to be rescued from the far field. apparently he could not negotiate the opening between the fields. also in november is dry lot time. and he will have all winter to get used to seeing one sided.

He will adjust to his new world just fine...he just needs some time to see and figure things out. Remember, seven years ago he had to figure out he was no longer going to be in pain and had to adjust to being "a horse"... It will be OK...he just needs a small amount of help while learning his surroundings from a different perspective...
