My hubbies mare is full arabian. she is 34 years old and every day i watch her and say thank you for being here and being so special.
well today in the am i went to the barn to feed. all the horses were in because of the rain. i opened the grain room door and i heard a banging. that is not unusual as they knock on the walls waiting for their breakfast.
well it got louder and i realized it was not the regular ones that bang the wall.
i looked and it was the mare down and cast.
I got hubby and the hired hand and between the 3 of us and the ropes and the tractor, she was pulled out of the stall and onto the ground 15 feet away from the stall.
Poor thing looked pitiful. but her gums were pink and her eyes were bright and i did give her honey and water several times during the hour we were working to get her out.
After about 30 minutes of her being on the ground. she started to get up and with a pull and push on her part she was up and walking on the lawn.
Thank you lord for letting her have more time with us.
Now the reason of this posting is. my question. if you have a horse do the same thing. what are you going to do?
how are you getting her/him out and up?
we also tried the come a long. and than could not get it to unhook or release. so the halter had to be cut.
why wait for an emergency to figure out how something works? try the equipment and put everything in one spot for such an emergency.
better yet make stalls so the fronts come off.?? . perhaps?.
But what is your plan for an emergency, and if you are alone who do you call?. I am not talking about nature or flood or some other disaster. i am talking about this type of horse emergency.
if i had called the vet we would have put her down with the excuse that she could not get up and was dying anyway. BUT, thankfully we decided not to call the vet and wait.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?? maybe
Here is Fashar Raffi or Vanity as we call her
