I took him to a Rick Pelino bomb proofing clinic a few years back. Just to see what he would do. It was a retired mounted police officer that did the class. Well everything he threw at us. Reno was Da Bomb...He did everything in the class with out a care. He lit a flare off and I took Reno up to it and he just stood there looking at the smoke bellow out from under himself. He did the crowd control and even the gun being fired. He never flinched at the gun shots. After the class the guy told me I had a nice horse. If I ever wanted to donate him, the police department would be happy to have a horse like him. I thought nope, never, nada!!! So what i want to do now is see how desensitized he is to guns. When we go out in the field and shoot. The horses stand about 100 feet from us and watch. They never run etc. So the next time we do it I'm going to walk him down tacked up and stand right there while we shoot. The guns range from 22 cal to 44 magnum. If he does ok with that. I'm going to get on him and shoot a 22 pistol off of him. Then mine is a 308. It's loud but not like a cannon going off. I will of course shoot to the side of him and work my way up... I will also have some one at his head just encase he has forgotten. So I don't end up on the ground. When I do this I will get Jess to video it.. So you might see a good session or you will get a good laugh at me picking my ole arse up off the ground... After he passes that test. My next move with him is to get a harness and cart. Then when I can't ride anymore.I can drive him around...

Lipazzan I have driven them before. My experience was driving standardbreds for harness racing. I did that back in the early eighties. Yes it is fun. But this time I won't be doing 30 -35 mph.

You may want to consider some horsey ear plugs if you plan to shoot off of his back. He will still get plenty of noise, he just won't have the ringing afterwards.

I have already thought about that. I know from my racing years we used them on one of our best racers. When the driver popped out those bad boys.He hit another gear. I'm going to have to get on line and find some from probably Chicks since that is where we bought most of the harness stuff years ago.

We're not sure we want to see a picture of you "picking your arse"... just sayin' Anyway... I'm thinking a really good desensitizing thing for a horse would be to have them walk through one of those blow up castle fun houses. Or a wind tunnel filled with plastic bags. Or a ball pit that was 3 -4 ft deep, that would be a lot of fun.
