This year is my and my hubby's 20th wedding anniversary. To celebrate we decided to take a trip somewhere. At first we thought about going back to Las Vegas (where we went for our honeymoon), but I mentioned how much I have wanted to go to Road to the Horse, so my hubby said let's do it! I have wanted to see Road to the Horse in person for years, so I have been so excited about this trip and have been planning it since last May when tickets first went on sale. It was a 4 day event at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, and what a fun and exciting event it was!
I haven't gone on more than a day trip in at least 10 years, so I was really worried about leaving all my furbabies for 4 days, but we had both of our adult kids come stay at our house to take care of them all. It's a big job (1 dog, 2 horses, 2 house cats, 15 barn cats, and 5 fish), so I figured it would be best to have both kids work together to make sure everything got done. I also asked my neighbor down the road who also has horses to come check on my horses periodically while we were gone since my kids really aren't horse savvy (and because I'm a worrywart ). I was glad to see that everyone was alive and well when we returned home last night (although 1 of our white barn cats is missing, so I hope he turns up soon).
If any of you ever have the opportunity to go to Road to the Horse, you should definitely do it! I didn't think it was too terribly expensive, certainly no more than what we would have paid to go to Las Vegas, and it was well worth every penny! They put on a great show! If you go, though, be sure to bring plenty of spending money... they have vendors booths set up all around the entire outside of the arena, plus a large "store" inside the building, and it was very easy to spend lots of money on T-shirts, clothes, boots, hats, souveniers, horse supplies, tack, and just about any other horse-related item you can imagine!
I took an insane amount of pictures, so I'll apologize to you all in advance for that, but there was just so much going on all the time and I couldn't help myself! Of course I also took a bunch of pictures around the Kentucky Horse Park as well. I'm posting a link to my Facebook photo album so you can all check out the pictures. I hope the link works. Enjoy!!
