They can be bay as adults but I think it's rare. The Spanish Riding School keeps a bay one in residence at all times for good luck

Lipizzan... Do any of your horses date back to the horses that Gen. Patton rescued, saved from execution during the war or before that time? I know it is a very old and pure breed...
I remember some names on some of the Hermann's Royal Lipizzaner Stallions Touring Horses from when I was a child and was allowed to sit and have a "pony ride" on one of their stallions... don't think I washed the hand that touched that horse for more than a week. I was so thrilled. Years later my instructor had a Lipizzaner as her personal horse and on rare occasions lesson horse. I was one of the few who was allowed to handle & ride him.. I am as impressed today as I was then by these beauties...they are just magnificent animals... 884530

We have lots of bays and blacks here in Croatia, That bay mare on the picture is grandmother of my black mare, and her mother was also black.

During the second world war many of the lippinzaners were killed and some were hidden n farm houses and disguised as work horses in the fields and some were painted with charcoal to change their color. and yes Patton saved many by driving them across the borders held than returned to vienna when the war was over.
those horses are beautiful and majestic. and always look royal

Also during the war 20 years ago when Serbs attacked Croatia, they stole our Lipizzaners, starved them and then whanted us to buy it off from them(imagine that). They were returned few years ago. It was an emotional moment for all of us.
The Lipik Lipizzaners
by Darko Zubrinic, Zagreb (1999)
In October 1991, the largest Lipizzaner horse-farm in Croatia, situated near the town of Lipik, was bombed with napalm bombs. Out of 117 horses 27 of them were killed, and more than 80 taken away to Serbia, where they are also today. Believe it or not, the Serbs are trying to SELL stolen Croatian Lipizzaners to Croatia! From reliable sources we know that some of them have been already sold in Italy.
Lipizzaner horse farm before the Greater Serbian destruction in 1991
The Lipizzaner horse-farm, which exists since 1905, is known in Europe for its high quality sports horses. They lived in the stable that was 169 m long, 10 m large, with walls 1m thick, providing excellent conditions for healthy life of horses, including wonderful surrounding meadows and forests.
Lipizzaner horse farm after the Greater Serbian destruction in 1991
As a result of attack with napalm bombs in 1991, the stable was left in a very difficult condition. The wish of citizens of Lipik is to renew the horse-farm through foreign concessions. Very cultivated space and pleasant climate are ideal for Lipizzaner breeding.
The Lipik coat of arms with Kursalon and Lipizzaner
According to Mato Cacic, Croatia has the largest population of Lipizzaner horses in the world, about 15-16 %. In 2007 Croatia had more than a thousand Lipizzaners, out of 6000-7000 in the world. Croatia has more than 200 years of tradition of organized breeding of Lipizzaners.
The Republic of Croatia is a member of the Lipizzan International Federation (LIF).

I remember how we all cry that day. People gathered to welcome them, they put candles on the way to the barn for the ones who did't make it back home. I can't put pictures, because it is to hard for me. I don't want to fell anger, but it is hard, because of what they done to us. Not just to horses.

The horses, or most of them have returned and with them a new beginning, as for the people that did the harm to the horses, the serbs , well some nationalities (people) are cowards and have no respect for people let alone an animal. they are unhappy and uncaring and evil. and they suffer everyday they are alive.

I hope only God forgive them. God will forgive them, that is His way...but He won't forget what was done to His animals He created... come judgement day there will be a toll to pay and a reckoning for the atrocities done to Gods' creation. I do believe that...

They did a lot of harm to animals, but what they did to people. That is beyond the words.
