I am a student at the Faculty of Agriculture, department of farm animals, horses and dogs. We were talking about dairy cows. In my country the most common and the best dairy cows are Holstain cows with the average of 40 L milk in one day. I am interested if someone can tell me witch dairy cows are best in US, and how much milk they produce. Thank you

There is a member on HT called QuarterCowGirl - she works in the dairy industry. If you send her a private message through HT I'm sure she would be happy to help you!

Hi there, I'm actually from Canada, but as far as the dairy industry goes, the strategies in both countries are somewhat the same.
Holsteins are also the most common over here, but Jerseys are a close second.
If fed and bred well, a superior Holstein can produce up to 60L/day here! An average run of the mill cow would produce more like 40L/day, still not too shabby.

Perhaps Quartercowgirl can post some photos of the cows and also explain what type of food is given to the cows that she is taking care of that is or might be different from the food that is being fed in Croatia.
