I must say this as a warning, and i really mean,, i usually plug in the outside water heater tank and leave for a couple of hours,, i usually run errands on friday,, well since i had a potential customer coming i stayed home.. I am feeding the rest of the horses and i put garbage into the cans and headed to the arena to let out the horses for the day.. hmmm something is wrong,, i smell wood burning.. well the plug and the outlet were smoking,, i freaked out,, since i had a building burn to the ground years ago i am paranoid of fire and the heaters.. if i had gone out for the morning the arena would have caught fire,.. i called my daughter in law she came over,, i had turned off the main breaker and she took the plug apart,, it was cracked and the wires were burned,, it is a plug that i have been asking for 5 years to get changed, the moral to the story,, look at those plugs and if they are cracked, old, or if a cord does not fit in it correctly, get them changed. oh and never leave those heaters plugged in for hours,, i leave them heating the water for 45 minutes,, when im done feeding i unplug them.. so check your outlets, and cords.. frays or broken ones get rid of them and fix those plugs. a horse angel was looking over my barn,, thank you

It's a good thing you were there. Electricity and barns are a bad mix to start with. But you need light etc.
Years ago we had a bad thunderstorm in Feb. It stuck close to the house and it blew the cover off the furnace box, fried a plug in the garage and later i found out. By my horse telling me. That the floating heater blew apart. I pulled the plug and got it out But the water had a burnt sell to it and he wouldn't drink out of it. So i cleaned it out bleached it. and filled it he still didn't want to put his head in it. But I got beside him and i drank out of it and the he was fine. I think he got zapped as soon as hi whiskers hit the water.
