so a boarder is dead lame i felt he was foundering on both fronts.. i was worried.. vet comes out and she finds an abcess on the coronary band over a crack in his hoof,, he has been here a year and i really never noticed this injury the owner says that the hoof would grow out like that ,, great for the news.. i wish i knew that a few months back.. so now what do i do with this abcess and his hoof that grows strange?

Black goo.... Ichthammol, gunk it on, put a gauze pad over it and vet wrap to keep in place.. Will draw and pop it... Change the dressing and do it again to pull the poison pus out... How to address the hoof is something needs spoken to the farrier about..maybe a different trim could alleviate some strain to the hoof and crack will stop.. With you having a crack...if me... I would do a White Lightning soak with product made by Grand Circuit to kill organism of white line disease and possibly whatever organism is creating the abscess. www.grandcircuitinc.com/catalog/white-lightning%C2%AEMake sure you not only soak but do the dry fumigation with the dry boot...stuff truly works!!
