Well this horse that i acquired 10 years ago has foundered.. i knew he was a bit off a while ago and had him looked at.. nothing noticed.. just feed him and let him go about his business. well the other day on the hard frozen mud he was off on two fronts.. kept him inside where it was soft and his appetite is great and drinking.. turned him out again and is off on all 4s, so i have decided to put him down.. later this week.. not fair to him to start with xrays and boots and medication only to have him break thru and than i have more of a situation that i could have prevented.. he is about 31,, loved for all this time and never rode him more than 5 or 6 times.. just a good old boy.. sad for him.. but he will be loved and fed until the day..

Oh, I'm sorry Jo. He has had a good life especially living on your farm where no cares do the horses have. Founder is tough...his advanced age makes it even tougher. For most darned if you do and darned if you don't. A peaceful, quiet exit to the heavens where he can continue pain-free playing with those gone before him sounds perfect a choice now. Godspeed to your buddy...

I agree,, he has had it great. ridden just a few times.. and no one made any demands.. ate. put on weight and is attached to one of my arab mare.. going to be tough for her but her group is large and she will be ok.. im trying to do the best i can and making this choice is not easy.. but to spend hundreds and the outcome is the same,, old horse with 4 feet that are never going to carry his weight around.. thank you ..

I had a vet come out to look at the big old red horse,, she saw that he had sever flat feet and was standing tilted back taking his weight off his toes.. nothing can be done.. so we put him out of pain.. rest easy now Big Red Horse. he had a great life here.. sad.. but that is love.. let them go without pain.. .

Sorry Jo...but thanks for always doing right by the horse first and band-aiding our heart later.
