HL4L to ans your feeding question here. this horse is on alfalfa pellets.. and optimum which i am changing.. plus aloe vera oil. smart pak of stuff i am not sure what.( gas guard vitamins and filler lol ) seperate vitamin e powder.. tums twice a day.. and gastro guard.. all to combat ulcers. grain is about 3/4 of a pound each twice a day and of course all the hay he wants.. most of that stuff is going to stop after a few weeks.. but i will continue him on tums.. seems it will help coat the stomach .. until he is adjusted to pasture in spring and summer. this horse has not had grass for a very long time. nor had the chance to dive into a pond or get burrs in his tail..lol all show show and groom and baths.. and babied. now lame forever at less than 15 years old.. sad but at least he is being taken care of and the owner is being responsible.

Sad...some injuries do not heal and stand up to riding of the same type let alone intensity... The next time he injures that leg, may be a catastrophic failure and there won't be any second chances... Instead it will be euthanasia...
He is a big horse who even light on the feet is a lot of pounding to that body part...... Hope he makes it...

I told her that,, even light trail riding might work.. and perhaps some little hills up and down.. grooming him and cleaning out his feet his leg with the injury is strange.. his foot is flat and his frog is deformed.. flat meaning no cup and the farrier did not want to dig it out.. and i agreed with him,, i have a feeling his coffin bones are low to the ground.. anyway i wished her the best and i am seeing her on tuesday when she comes to escort him to new clinic. in another state..

If the clinic is worth their salt.... They will go over him with the fine-tooth comb and find his problems... Then they will honestly and painfully plainly spoken explain what the damages mean, what his prognosis is for a return to work and what in all likelihood will happen...
Sadly, erring on side of seen to many... catastrophic failure of a now compromised body, incredible pain, torture and death.
If it is the $$ for him to live with you...then do right and just euthanize him.
They retired him because he was injured/hurt and not able to recover... What makes them think he has healed to do riding again? A permanent injury never heals...
Why can't people just figure out forever means forever...

He seems to be in no pain.. just a gimp of that leg.. and his hoof growing a little wanky,, other than that he is busting to be free and run around when he wants. they want him to be ridden again lightly,, and as we know performance horses are either up or down not in between. here is a horse that has anxeity issues and needs ace to keep him from getting upset or prevent colic.. and ulcers.. it is amazing even their dog has digestive issues. and needed surgery twice on both hind legs. and is on therapy,, some people are just doing too much and expect too much and listen to too many people
hl4l i agree.
