"BEST CHRISTMAS EVER"
Dolls, doll houses, doll clothes - many girls look for Christmas gifts filled with these. I wanted a bridle, a halter, a saddle and a horse to go with it all.
I knew that we lived where we could not have a horse. I also knew the cost of a horse was a cost we could not endure. Yet ever Christmas, I woke still hoping and praying that Santa had paid no attention to that.
Year after year, there was no horse on Christmas.
I learned that life goes on, even if Santa never delivered a horse to my home.
After raising kids and critters and even owning a horse of my own for a time, I finally got a farm where many horses could abide with me.
Liberty was one of those horses that came to live on my farm. Liberty was an older grade buckskin paint who was as gentle as a summer breeze. She was a boss mare, but ruled with kindness (unless a youngin got out of line, then with a little tough love, she kept her herd in line).
We had experienced a lifetime together even though it was condensed into a few years. I saw her foal born and then found that filly killed by lightening. I helped her survive when a foal that she carried was aborted. This mare helped me through my illness and I had helped her survive a critical injury. Most days she was sound now, but on a bad day her needs had to be put first.
When the doctors were telling me that I may die soon, I worried about my special needs critters like Liberty. Prayers for the right home for her began. I wanted to keep her with me, but knew she needed a special home, and so the search ensued.
Several people considered her, but none of them was the right home. I was wondering if the right home could be found.
Then the perfect home came about in a miraculous way..
The buyer was not shopping for a horse like Liberty, although that is what she really wanted to get. She was looking to buy my pony, but upon meeting Lib, there was clearly instant love and respect. With just her halter on, even without being ridden for years, Libby was mounted bareback and rode like a dream.
This mare was going to Santa for him to deliver her on Christmas morning to the lady's two young daughters. This was the horse the new owner had been praying for and this was the home I had been praying for Liberty to have.
Tears fell when Lib left.
That Christmas, Jesus gave me my Christmas wish from long ago.
Shortly after the holiday, I received a video called "Best Christmas Ever" Santa had delivered my horse on Christmas. He delivered my beloved mare to two young girls. The delighted cries of, "It's a horse. It's a horse" brought a unique joy to my heart.
I still miss Liberty, but that Christmas I learned more fully, "It is in giving that we receive." I received the greatest gift that year. I helped Santa deliver my Christmas horse. For you see, Santa took my horse to children dreaming of finding a horse on Christmas morn.
