BETHLEHEM NATIVITY I was frugal. I normally waited until after Valentine's day to buy the wonderful chocolates at 1/2 price. I also waited until after Christmas to buy nativities that were on sale to add to my collection. This year I took Peter-John with me to "look, but not touch". The near by Bible store had many unique and special sets that even on a discount were beyond my budget. The young girl working in the sale section that day was learning sign language, so having a cute deaf child to practice with was fun for her and kept little fingers from reaching for expensive breakables. The two of them conversed as I explored the beautiful Christmas sets. "Bethlehem"...so cute for him to sign that. Then I looked at the set that had my small child's attention. Unlike any other set that I had seen, this set had a " dog" The dark grey colored dog looked just like our hearing ear dog named Bethlehem. Oh this set was a nativity I for sure had to get. I looked at the price and even at 1/2 price, it was more than I wanted to spend. Then I noticed a mark on the tag and I asked about that.. "Oh that means it is damaged." It turned out the wooded stick that Joseph held for his staff had a small piece broken off...It just made it look shorter. "Damaged items are 1/2 price" So I got the set for 1/2 off the 50% discounted price. Christmastime, we miss our Bethlehem dog. But as we set up the nativity that Peter-John calls "Bethlehem", It is easy to recall that the Christmas star still shines just as bright as our love for the little baby Jesus and for the dog named Bethlehem .
