TRICK
Our Christmas times, like everyday life, were often accompanied by a friend in need.
There was one special Christmas of sharing the sorrows and joys of true meaning of Christmas with dear friends. A beloved friend had become overwhelming disabled from MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Her husband was working away from home and so she and her two small children were staying with us. Her husband took the family dog with him.
There was a phone call from her husband and when she answered it, cries of anguish filled the house. Buddy, their Brittany, had been hit by a car and was killed instantly.
I had loved the dog as much as they did and remember helping to tell the young kids about the dog. I learned the gift of "giving comfort" to them in their great loss.
I then made frantic calls for her. I called friends and people who raised hunting dogs searching for another dog. She wanted to get a new dog for the family for Christmas.
Finally a tender voice responded on the other end of the phone, I have a puppy. They were going to keep the pup, but when they heard the story, they knew this pup was perfect for the family. Arrangements were quickly made to get the dog. The pup was named "Trick" as it was a real trick to find one in time.
When her husband returned to his family, a young squiggly Brittany pup with a red bow greeted him with abounding puppy love.
Trick and I always had a special bond. Whenever I was with the family, Trick would come and look with loving eyes at me. Trick and I shared a unique bond of "healing a hurting family."
