It may be cumbersome but....
Save your money and get a rasp your farrier is throwing out...
I would suggest that you purchase that handle piece to protect your palms and to have better control of the rasp though.
Seriously, there is no better quality than the ones the farriers use every day.
For the small amount you're going to do, what is worn out for the farrier still has tons of use left for the private horse-owner.
Ask your farrier to save you a couple...never had a problem getting them from any of my farriers.
They make wonderful hay string cutters too.
I've spoken to several people who had the riders rasp and heard nothing good about the job it did...if it did much of anything at all.
I looked at the Evo Rasp website....
The site sounds wonderful, but in reality the shape of that rasp doesn't give you enough leverage to do much of anything.
My opinion...but it is a lot of money to spend for something that design sounds great but in reality doesn't work, period.
Has the same principle as the riders rasp...
My friend has that riders rasp and had a problem with one of her horses hooves....she tried to use it and failed.
So...
My husband was best friends with my farrier and he did all his finishing work for years, so he can wield a file.
My husband is
very strong, he could not make a dent in fixing that chip with RR...hubby is used to using tools of all kinds in his line of work...
He told her to stay put, went next door to our house, got my old rasp and came back..
4 swipes and the hoof was safe to ride and no getting caught & damage averted.
Hubby told my friend that thing would make a decent door stop stuffed under the doors edge.
He went home and we loaded up and went riding the trails together..
