Sunday when I went out to feed Star was down and as soon as I would get him up he wanted to lay back down. I walked him around some and tried to see if he would eat any sweet feed. After I took care of the other horses I brought him up to the house and gave him mineral oil both ends. It was difficult to get the enema tube in. He never expelled any thing afterward even though he strained. I walked him for an hour with no results. Went thru the process three times switching to warm water with Dawn soap. I also gave him Gater Aid by mouth to get liquid in him. After dark last night I gave him more mineral oil by mouth and warm water enemas two time in two hours of walking him. I put him back with his mom hoping he would pass the blockage in the night.
This morning at six he was still in real stress. I went with the warm water enema and mineral by mouth and walked him for an hour. I could feel the hard block with the enema tube and it blocked any of the water from coming out. I had to set a mold at the factory so I put him back with his mom. When I came home about noon he was down and didn't want to get up. I got him up to the house and gave him another warm water enema, more mineral oil and started walking him again. This time he wanted to stop and strain after one or two trips down and back the drive. After a half hour I gave him another enema and started walking again. This time he stopped to strain more often. At one of his strains a hard ball fell on the cement drive and sounded like a rock hitting the cement. After that when he would stop to strain he would expel liquid. I put him back in with his mom and he tried to nurse a little. I went back to the shop to check parts and came home about four and he was down again. I brought him back up and gave him another warm water enema and walked him about 15 minutes and he would stop and strain but nothing. I took him back and gave him a mineral oil enema and walked him until 5:30. He expelled a small amount of loose stuff. I put him in with his mom and went in the house for supper. When I went out with a loader bucket of hay he came over and started eating some. After I had fed hay and started to feed sweet feed he was hunting grass along the fence. He came in and started to eat and I see in the pen he had expelled the block. Just before dark I went out to check and he was standing in the center of the pen not moving. I called his name several time before he moved his ears and turned his head. the little stinker was standing there sound a sleep.
I am hoping that the ordeal is over but with all the walking him beside the electric wheelchair he walks beside the chair on a loose lead. He also responds to the Gee and Haw commands I gave him when we turn. I found that when leading close to an object like the car or tractor he stops and then wants to walk slow.
