We are trying to sell forever now our mare Mara(black Lipizzaner). The reason of selling is simple that I personally(don't know about my father) want to give her a home where owners will have time to fulfill her potentials. In Croatia we are asking 2,200 dollars. It is too much for anyone asking about her. I am torn between of lowering the price or advertising more on foreign adds. But do I want her to go so far away? Then my problem is if I lower her price, she will never find a decent home I am looking for her. I someone is not prepared to pay extra for a good horse, how will they take care of it? recently lots of my acquaintances have sold horses to Poland, USA, Germany etc. Because we are in EU for couple of years now, transporting horses over borders have become easier.
I just don't know.

If you want to sell her you have to base your price on what she has done already, not necessarily on what you believe her capable of... A tough thing to do when you know potential but deal with facts. To me if you want a great sum of money then the horse has to have done something to warrant it...
Her black color, will it forever stay or will she whiten as she ages like most Lipis do? I think it is common for Lipizzaner to change colors is it not? Rare brings more money..
You can try to sell her internationally but again, that costs more money to promote the animal and have it presented in a professional layout to buyers... A homemade ad I don't think cuts it when selling internationally. Unless you are very talented in layout, photos and presentation. Internationally brings more costs to the purchaser for shipping and quarantine so makes her worth more when all are added to her sale price.
And lastly... once you sell the horse she is no longer yours and having strings attached is a huge turnoff to many. Remember the whiner from the other place... Having to keep in touch, or wanting to keep the horse close so you can check on her I think just limited the pool of buyers. Drop your price a small amount, find her a compassionate home local if that is what you want but be realistic in once gone she is gone...
I'm sorry Lip, my words in print seem callous and cruel. They ARE NOT meant that way!! wag finger jmo...

The price is such because she is rarity. Her color will stay black, and she has shown that she can and is producing "dark" progeny. Her ancestors are rare all dark/bay horses, and she has amazing pedigree for breeding. She is broken for riding and driving. Not professionally but enough to carry on the training(dressage wise), and enough to be completely good trail horse/driving horse.
I have seen horses her caliber go for 4-5 000 dollars, but to Poland. Because people here don't have money, does not mean she is not worth that and more. I have been selling yearling for 1000 dollars. The market this day is bad though. I don't want give her up for bargain.

Lipizzan - I can imagine how hard this is for you. You love your horses so much that letting them go is a difficult task. In my opinion, I would start advertising her on a few of the international sites at the price you have her since it sounds like it is a fair price. Finding a great home for her is your top priority. I personally would prefer to find her a great home that was father away rather than an "ok home" nearby. With technology now, the new owners could easily give you updates on her progress. Go ahead and put her ads out there. You don't have to sell to someone if you don't feel that they are a good fit. Good luck.

Wow Lip.... She is indeed rare and passes her "dark" traits to her offspring...again rare. I agree with MM... Advertise her internationally where she is "rare" and not common in the fact that many have Lipizzaner horses in your country, but the white as they age ones. I am thinking she might be worth more money as a broodmare than a riding/driving horse because she passes the dark genes along and generation now have this ability. A good home she deserves and is what you wish for her... That can be had, and periodic updates on how she is doing from new owners should not be a big deal but please realize that asking for such a thing can turn some off to the animal. She is so pretty and if your hand was involved raised with love and compassion in her training.. She will find a good, kind and loving home...she will. You otherwise will not let her leave and I think your father is alongside you in that... You said it has been a while she has been available with limited interest and low-ball offers for her... Do the very best you can for her as we know you shall...new, caring owners and a people who will cherish her, they are out their you just have not met each other, yet!....

I would sit on the price since she is rare. Advertise more. A good horse person will pay the price to have her in a breeding program. You know what you have. May take time but the right person will come.

She is stunning.. it is difficult to sell a horse .. and no matter where a person is or what the horse is.. unless you make a huge effort that horse will stay unsold. sometimes we just need to look at it from a business point of view.
If you were looking for that type.. where would you look?? if it is in the europe market place than that is where you should market . the color is fantastic and unusual so for that her price is going to reflect that.. But what is her price ?? you need to put a figure on her that will attract and also hopefully have a great home. as i have done in the past.. sold horses.. and tried to keep in touch.. it always worked out that the horse is well and than i loose contact.. , the best thing we can do is continue praying that they are well. Good luck.
i know they have alot of their own horses but what about the lippizzaner school in vienna.. ??

mm- I appreciate it, than you. She is beautiful, but I admit, I don't have time for her. i will try it. Tnx
h4l- I see where you are going wit turning of buyer by asking to stay in touch, I just would not be prepared to sold a horse and never hear about it again.
mingiz- I agree, maybe i should not put the price down.
hl- Lp School in Vienna have a very strict rules, they keep all whites and only one bay for the show , it is the tradition.
