The barn where I board is doing their own show series for 2017. They will all be schooling shows with basically one show a month. The shows will rotate between three different formats: The combined test consists of doing a dressage test and one round of stadium jumping. The just jumper show is just stadium jumping. The eventing derby consists of a dressage test and then a jump course with some stadium type jumps set up in a field then you go directly onto the cross country jumps. At the end of the year we will have an awards banquet.
This Saturday is the first show and it is a combined test. Parker and I will be doing the Starter level with a basic walk trot canter dressage test and 2'3" jumps. We will move up a level in spring but I thought it best to start off easy. I will make sure the camera battery is charged this time. Right now the weather doesn't look good for Saturday but hopefully the rain and storms will hold off for us.

Thanks everyone! Parker and I had a really great day yesterday. A local dressage trainer who I know and really respect was judging the dressage portion. We had a great test. Parker was such a good boy listening to me and staying so nice and soft in his movements. Catherine was extremely excited and her daughter didn't even recognize that I was on Parker (she knew Parker from his previous owner). The judge knows that Parker and I are a new "team". When I talked with her after she was finished judging, she just gushed about how great we looked and she wasn't expecting us to look so great together already. It made me feel really good that perhaps I am doing something right with my riding and training him. I really want to take a few lessons with her and would love to get her on Parker to see everything he really knows. The great thing was that I was extremely relaxed for the dressage part of the day (which I am sure is what helped things go so well). The jumping portion wasn't quite as pretty but we got through it without a refusal or pulling down a rail so we finished in first on our dressage score out of 5 riders. I have more work to do with respect to jumping him but it is all work I have to do on me (I need to not be so timid about moving him on and going at a better pace). He's such a good boy even though I buried him into the base of a few of the jumps - he has never hit a rail with me no matter how deep we get and he always saves me from disaster by staying under me as much as possible while getting out of these bad spots I put him. I was a little more nervous about the jumping but once I got in the ring and got going, I felt better. A friend took pics but my son seems to have hidden the cord to my camera. I will get a new one soon but in the meantime, here's a pic of Parker showing off his ribbon.

Congratulations!! So excited for you. Parker sounds like a perfect horse for you. I am really glad that you are making progress and a first place is really something to be proud of.
